MINUSCULE : Valley of the Lost Ants recently won the 2014 Mill Valley Film Festival Audience Award for Best Children's Feature Film. Directors Thomas Szabo and Hélène Giraud were nominated in three other film festival events: Cristal Best Feature Award at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival 2014, the 2014 European Film Award for Best Animated Feature Film, and the 2013 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival Award for Best Children's Film.
This year, MINUSCULE : Valley of the Lost Ants is vying for the Best Animated Film for another win in the 87th Oscar Awards.
MINUSCULE : Valley of the Lost Ants starts in a peaceful little clearing, the remains of a picnic hastily abandoned spark warfare between two tribes of ants. A bold young ladybug finds herself caught in the middle of the battle. He befriends one of the black ants, Mandible, and helps him save the anthill from the assault of the terrible red ant warriors, led by the fearful Butor. A fantastic journey at ground level begins.
MINUSCULE : Valley of the Lost Ants started as a short film that was further developed by Futurikon for film and television. Broadcast on France Télévisions and in more than 100 countries, with more than 650,000 DVDs sold in France alone, the series of shorts episodes has become a favorite across cultures and for all age groups. After a much longer creative process, Thomas Szabo and Hélène Giraud have directed an 89 minute feature film, an epic adventure movie full of surprises and unusual plot twists… a bit like Lord of the Rings in the insect world.
