The Original Pares now in BGC: Famous QC joint ‘Jonas’ opens in Fort Strip

The QC pares joint arguably known as the inventor of the beef pares — the Pinoy comfort food trio (and hangover grub) of saucy beef stew, rice, and soup — opens at The Fort Strip in BGC.

Jonas Pares is a popular pares food joint in the north with humble beginnings, starting out as a carinderia with very few seats in 1979. It has then expanded to more branches, with more upscale food court style ambiance (being airconditioned), featuring a more expansive menu and slightly more expensive (yet still affordable) fare.

In the new BGC branch, an order of the Original Jonas Pares (P198) gets you a bowl of the signature beef pares, slow cooked with assorted spices until tender, served with a heaping of garlic rice and a cup of soup. The term pares was used for this dish, as the saucy beef bowl is by default paired ('pares' is Filipino for pair) with garlic rice and clear soup — a set meal devoured in many carinderias and late night neighborhood food haunts all around Manila.

Aside from the popular pares meal, the new restaurant offers breakfast meals served with Batangas coffee, hot dishes served with rice and soup, and noodle soups using handmade noodles pulled fresh daily. As Jonas Pares in BGC takes the space which was formerly Zong's, the new restaurant features on their menu a few of the Chinese restaurant's top sellers, like the Chicken with salted egg yolk (P245) served with kropeck. They also sell sandwiches using whole wheat organic bread, salads, assorted dimsum like siomai, kikiam, siopao, and spring rolls; there is also a mini bakery inside the restaurant offering assorted muffins, cakes, and other baked goods and other local delicacies. Jonas is also known for their creation of 'Siopant,' which is a siopao molded into a croissant, with ham and cheese.

Jonas Pares is now open (dry run) at the The Fort Strip (formerly Zong), BGC Taguig. Follow @jonasmanila on Instagram and Like on Facebook (/jonasofficial79).
