About the Event

Autism. Autism is a lifelong disability. It is estimated that the current ratio of people affected with autism is 1/69 regardless of race or socio-economic background. When they are young, they attend special schools and go through various therapies to learn and acquire skills. As they become adults, the focus shifts to life skills to enable them to work and find purpose.

Julyan's Farm Autism Foundation, Inc. The Foundation believes in supporting adults living with autism by coaching and teaching them vocational skills using many fun and varied ways. With the help of the local community, the goal is for these special needs adults to be able work in our society and find real purpose in their lives.

Art Exhibit on April 1-3, 2016. 11am - 8pm

Fun and Purpose

The theme is FUN and PURPOSE, it signifies we all have the human right to find fun and more importantly, real purpose in life.

1) Awareness:

The Art Exhibit is an awareness project to highlight the gifts and talents of the special needs children and adults living with autism. Specifically timed to coincide with World Autism Awareness Day, which has been declared as being on 2 April each year by United Nations resolution 62/139.

2) Raise Funds for the Construction of a Community Art Center at Zambawood:

The Community Art Center at Zambawood will be a place for the vocational and artistic development of adults and children living with autism and other similar developmental disabilities. The center will welcome people from the local community to work as part of the inclusion project. It is a place to learn new skills and nurture their craft. Eventually, the goal is to provide apprentice diploma programs for ALL students to provide specific skills. This will allow them to have some sort of expertise and eventually allow them to find jobs, be independent (or semi-dependent) and be sustainable in the future.

* In this respect, we are very fortunate to be supported by very talented and respected artisans in the country, who have expressed their willingness to share their time and talent to teach.

To Aim for Inclusion in the community:

With acceptance and understanding, it is possible to live and work together in harmony.

The exhibit will be in collaboration with the Saturday Group of Artists and a few volunteer Student Artists. The participation of the two groups is significant as it illustrates that the special needs talent is accepted, supported, acknowledged and respected by emerging young artist as well as the established and prolific artists.

Finding the opportunity to include them:

The art works for the exhibit will be divided into 5 categories:

GROUP A: Special Needs Artists

-The individual art work of the special needs individuals. GROUP AB: Special Needs Artists + Student Artists

-The collaboration between the multimedia students and each of the special needs persons. GROUP AC: Special Needs + Saturday Group of Artists

-The collaboration between members of the Saturday Group of Artists with the special needs artists.

GROUP ABC: Special Needs + Student Artists + Saturday Group of Artists

-The collaboration between a member of the Saturday Group of Artists with one special needs artist and a volunteer multimedia student.

GROUP C: Saturday Group of Artists

- Art work by participating members of the Saturday Group of Artists. Whilst not all are available, 21 of them have committed to support this project with their work.

The Saturday Group of Artists:

The Saturday Group is the oldest art group, formed more than 40 years ago by passionate artists wanting to talk, practice and share their art in Manila. Today, the group continues the legacy, meeting regularly for art sessions on Saturdays with an annual exhibit to showcase their distinct styles. The group takes pride that 8 of our country's National Artists in the Visual Arts came from the Saturday Group, namely Manansala, Legaspi, Cabrera, Joya, Alcuaz, Francisco, Ocampo and Arturo Luz.

We are very privileged to be supported by this brilliant group of artists. Headed by Ms Migs Villanueva, The Saturday Group has generously committed to donate the full proceeds of their art work to the construction of the Community Art Center. Thus, it will aptly be called:

“Saturday Group of Artists Community Art Center at Zambawood”

Saturday Group of Artists Community Art Center at Zambawood:

The center will be around 90 sqm, modern structure made of engineered bamboo. The design of the center is being finalised and will be ready in time for the exhibit.

The expected inauguration of the building will be on 14 July, 2016. The date of Julyan's birthday is also when we celebrate Zambawood anniversary with a thanksgiving fiesta for all our staff and their families. Volunteer Student Artists:

It is so refreshing when the millennials, through their own initiative, generously volunteer their time and talent to support the cause. The collaboration is facilitated by Mike Tan of Multi Media Street. It is very heartwarming and touching to find and work with people who genuinely believe in this project and hold up their hands to make a difference.
