About the Event

The University of the Philippines Association for Computing Machinery is bringing back one of its most successful events, Algolympics, for the third year in a row. For the last two years, UP ACM has made the event a platform for aspiring young Filipino programmers to prove their skills to each other in an intercollegiate programming competition that is also a stepping-stone to the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest.

Algolympics was an overwhelming success for UP ACM last year, so the org has decided to double down on this and plans to accommodate a larger target of 30 three-member teams from different places across Metro Manila. Algolympics 2016 is poised to bring more than 100 teachers and coaches together to battle it out in the programming arena during a 3-hour coding marathon on February 20, 2016 at Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute in the UP Diliman Campus.

Algolympics is patterned after ACM’s annual ICPC and will challenge participants with problems that cover the broad range of topics in the field of Computer Science. These are hardcore problems that competitors need to meet head-on with working code, written in either C, C++ or Java.

This year, UP ACM’s Algolympics is sure to yet again bring out the talents of some of the Philippines’ best and brightest, and inspire them to see computer science as a path for the Filipino youth.

Algolympics 2016 is presented by Accenture, METR, and IP-Converge; in cooperation with Freelancer; also brought to you by Azeus, ictjob.ph, and Ideyatech. The official media partner for the event is ClickTheCity.com. This is UP ACM’s biggest event of the year, and aligns perfectly with its mission of advancing computer science as a science and as a profession.

This is something the organization has been working hard towards since its founding in 2003 as the first student chapter in the country of ACM—the world’s largest computing society.

Teams can register until February 13, 2016, click here to register. More information is available on UP ACM’s Facebook page or follow UP ACM on Twitter for the latest updates.
