About the Event

Ysobel Art Gallery in cooperation with Metrobank Foundation announces the first major solo show of Ronante Maratas, Fragile Bones. On view from May 23 – June 1, 2015, the exhibition features an array of raw, rough, provocative artworks influenced by the artist musings on life, family and experiences that shaped his identity.

“I want to paint what bothers me to find peace and answers”- Ronante Maratas.

In his first ever solo exhibition, the artist gives us a glimpse of who he is through his vibrant and flamboyant art works. His thoughts on society, deepest fears, personal encounters, dreams and family experiences are skillfully and purposely translated into the blank canvas using intense textural strokes, and vivid colors.

He depicted regular and perceivable living forms such as humans, animals, flowers in an abstract manner through distorted figures, significant layers of paint and a rudimentary finish. In totality a collection of works inspired by a conventional subject matter yet presented in an unorthodox way.

Ronante Maratas

Ronante Maratas, 25, studies Bachelor of Fine Arts in FEATI University. He was the Grand Prize winner last 2012 in the 28th Metrobank Arts and Design Excellence (MADE) National Competition (Oil/Acrylic Category).

He was also a finalist in several Shell National Student Art Competitions and Maningning Miclat Art Awards. The artist style may somehow be classified as part of the Neo Expressionism Art Movement due to its nonconformist style and aesthetics as well as its vigorous subjectivity, rough handling of materials and distinct textures.
