Regina Gift Shop is my favorite, not-so-secret little corner of Shoppesville, Greenhills. Add "crispy" to any of my favorite Filipino food, and I am sold. The sight of crispy pata and bagnet is just begging for a heaping of white rice. Same can be said with leftover adobo that has been shredded and re-fried to crunchy perfection. So it was an easy feat for C2 Classic Cuisine to win me over with their Crispy Ribs Sinigang (P350), a masterpiece of deep-fried beefy goodness served with cheek-pinching sour broth. It is the dish I use to introduce C2 to my friends and relatives who haven't tried the restaurant. Of course, there are more exciting things in store for you at C2, from beverages right down to their dessert.

Still sleepless from an early flight to Dumaguete, we stumbled along the airport, fumbling with our bags and fixing our messy hair to look more alive. Our shuttle driver held up a sign with my friend's name on it. It was amusingly misspelled and left us all in stitches while boarding the van. An hour's worth of drive is what it took for us to reach our destination. We barely got to catch some shuteye during the drive -- there was a long stretch of bumpy dirtroad before we finally reached our resort. It was not a refreshing way to begin our vacation, but let me tell you this: once the big gates of Antulang opened to welcome us, a love affair began.

They may be more laborious to tackle down and eat, but wings are my most favorite part of fried chicken (then skin, too, but that's altogether another experience). Aaah, to ditch the fork and knife and grab with your fingers a piece of buffalo wing, glistening in oil and sauce; to struggle with the many bones and their lever-like dexterity. There are boneless counterparts, but I still prefer the original, because I know right after picking and pulling and bending those little fried beauties, a savory reward awaits.

I think that's one of the reasons I frequented my classmate's house back in the day, and disguise my visit as a study session. I know which tita serves the best tapa, which one makes the best roasted lamb, or which one makes the best butterfly prawns in the world. That kind of food simple, rich (not scrimping ingredients), and served with a lot of love and attention. If you want that comfort food feeling served by a very sweet and accommodating 'big mama,' then head on over to Big Mama's Place and see what they have in store for you.

Over at one corner of Power Plant Mall's concourse level, there has been more buzz and people at a vibrant restaurant that never runs out of customers during both day and night. That mouthwatering smell of grilled meat consumes passers-by, making them stop to look at a long line of hungry customers awaiting to order their food. The brightly-lit and cheery restaurant swiftly serves up a fill of lunch or dinner, or anything in between, and attends to the next in line with all smiles. Just another restaurant? Not quite. This one offers you something fresh and enticing: always have your meal your way. At Pepper Lunch, you are the Chef.

For college basketball fanatics and die-hard supporters of their alma mater, this means braving the traffic at Araneta Center, or squishing yourself amidst other 'color-coded' commuters in the Cubao MRT Station. Aaah yes, it's that time of the year again where people don bright and bold colors of their team; where alumni, students and fans all temporarily become rabid supporters, gnashing at other teams that come along their way.

I am a true-blue city girl, born and raised in Manila, and probably a good number of you are city folks as well. But do we really know this Manila that we call home? Taking a step back from our everyday routine of work, school, or play will eventually make one realize how little we know of the hundreds of stories that resonate in our busy streets, in the edifices we pass by, and in the old structures that we tend to ignore. It is no doubt that Manila has a story to tell... she just wants us to take some time to listen, and listen well.

I have big feet. While I still consider them fairly proportional to my height, the trouble with women and large feet is finding a good pair of shoes. Not only do I have a pair of size 8-and-a-halfs (or 9, or 9-and-a-half and even 10, depending on the shoe brand and style!), my feet are also wide, narrowing my options for shoes. I think this is one of the main reasons I am allergic to high heels - it's simply difficult to find the perfect pair!
