The drama film follows Rose, a 17-year-old Filipino-American who dreams of becoming a country music icon. This dream is hindered when her undocumented mother is arrested by immigration officers, leaving her to live and survive alone.
It marks Eva Noblezada’s film debut, following her roles in stage productions Miss Saigon and Hadestown. Also joining her in the cast are Lea Salonga and Princess Punzalan, playing Rose’s aunt and mom, respectively. American country singer Dale Watson also makes an appearance in the film.
Yellow Rose comes from director Diane Paragas, who took inspiration from her experiences as she grows up in Texas. The film also won numerous awards in film festivals, including the Grand Jury Prize at the 35th Los Angeles Asia Pacific Film Festival.
