WATCH: Naomi Watts Befriends a Bird in Trailer for Drama Film ‘Penguin Bloom’

It tells the story of how an injured magpie helped a family heal.

Naomi Watts stars in a new Netflix film that is set to tug at our heartstrings: Penguin Bloom.

The two-time Academy Award nominee is joined by The Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln in this movie about how an odd bird helped a family heal. Check out the trailer below:

Penguin Bloom is based on real life events and was adapted from the bestselling novel of the same name by Bradley Trevor Greive and Cameron Bloom.

Naomi Watts plays Samantha Bloom, wife to Cameron Bloom and a mother of three boys. When an accident left her paralyzed from the chest down, Sam spent long months in a depression that made her question who she could be in the world and in her own family.

A year later, her young boys brought home an injured baby magpie they found and named Penguin. Somehow, Sam’s bond with the little bird becomes a way of emotional healing not only for her, but also for her family.

As Netflix puts it, this film “tells the amazing true story of renewal that occurred when a woman whose life seemed shattered found hope and purpose in her familyā€™s love ā€” and in a bird on its own journey of recovery.”

Penguin Bloom is directed by Glendyn Ivin. It also stars Jacki Weaver, Griffin Murray-Johnston, Rachel House, Leeanna Walsman.

The film will premiere on Netflix this January 27. For more details, check out its official page on Netflix.
