Inspired by true events, The Two Popes centers on Cardinal Bergoglio who requests from Pope Benedict to retire as he is frustrated with the direction of the church. Instead of granting him this, however, Pope Benedict, who's facing scandal and self-doubt, invites his future successor to Rome to talk about a secret that would shake the foundations of the Church. The two would then have to face their past as they try to build a future for the religion's followers all over the world.
