Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro 5G Review: The Budget Flagship for Capturing Stories

Take home a flagship phone without breaking the bank with Xiaomi's Mi 10T Pro 5G!

It was just last month that Xiaomi launched their latest flagship phone here in the Philippines, the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro 5G.

With its impressive camera setup, lasting power, amazing processor performance, and additional features tailored to bring life to your ideas, the Mi 10T Pro promises to take your creativity to the next level. And having the Xiaomi label, its affordable price tag makes the deal even more alluring.

Xiaomi has been kind enough to let us have a try at the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro, 8GB+128GB variant in Cosmic Black. After spending days with the device, hereā€™s what I think about Xiaomiā€™s latest flagship phone.

At first glance

The Mi 10T Pro has a generous 6.67-inch FHD+ DotDisplay made even more stunning by its up to 144Hz refresh rate. Its dot drop camera is pushed to one corner, so you can focus better on the screen. Unlike most flagship phones nowadays though, this Xiaomi phone has no curved edges but this being a bad thing still depends on the usersā€™ preference.

On the Mi10T Proā€™s rear is a smooth and shiny black surface with a rectangular camera setup protruding on the top right. Both the front and back are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which can survive 1.2-meter, waist-high drops onto hard and rough surfaces, according to Corning.

The volume rocker is found on the right side of the device, and just below it is the power button with a fingerprint sensor. Underneath is the Type-C port flanked by the speaker grill, microphone, and SIM card tray that can fit two nano-SIM cards. Storage is not expandable and thus, there is no microSD slot. Don’t worry about your storage though, because the Mi 10T Pro that’s currently in the Philippine market has 256 GB ROM.

On top of the phone is the IR blaster along with some added microphone for 3D audio recording. There is no audio jack on this phone.

Content creation capabilities

The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro is packed with features that are sure to delight the content creators out there. It is headlined by the 108MP camera which impressively delivers crisp and clear images with up to 30x digital zoom. It yielded photos with the hefty dimensions of 9024×12032.

Below the main camera are the 13MP ultra-wide angle camera and a 5MP macro camera. As expected, there is nothing special with its macro camera while the ultra-wide angle camera does its job pretty well.

As for capturing video, the Mi 10T Pro can support up to 8K video recording with up to 30 fps. While this device can really produce great footage, the 8K recording may not be as impressive and practical as you think– phone brands aside. If youā€™re a creator who puts your content on YouTube and social media, using 8K footage might be overdoing it. Still, it is up to the user if they find this feature useful for their content.

For the selfie crowd and TikTok influencers, the Mi 10T Pro does not disappoint with its ultra-clear 20MP front camera. When in portrait mode, the cut between the subject and the background is pretty clean.

There are also some bonus features to make photos and videos pop on your feed. When editing photos, you can tweak the sky and fill it with clouds, stars, and even the aurora borealis wherever you are on the planet.

Meanwhile, the Vlog mode can help you create videos with catchy transitions without the need for editing. The 3D audio recording also creates a surround sound effect on your videos by identifying which microphone captures the sound and applying it to the audio output.

My gaming experience

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 with 5G, Adreno 650 GPU, 8GB RAM, and 128GB ROM, the Mi 10T Proā€™s gaming prowess is just flawless. I played Call of Duty: Mobile with the highest settings and I didnā€™t encounter any hiccups. Furthermore, the 144Hz refresh rate really elevated the experience. I also tried Genshin Impact with this device and just like with Call of Duty, the game went pretty smoothly even at 60 fps and high render resolution.

The Mi 10T Pro does heat up pretty quickly at times, but the good thing is that the heat doesnā€™t accumulate even after continuous gaming. The battery life does not affect the performance also, even when youā€™ve reached below 10%.

Battery life

The Mi 10T Pro has a 33W fast charger in the box which allowed me to charge up its 5,000mAh battery from 3% to 96% in just an hour. When playing heavy games, it decreased 8% in just 30 minutes giving you a lengthy gaming session. It can also keep up with your binging sessions, having used only about 10% in an hour of online streaming.

Availability and pricing

The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro that’s currently in the Philippine market has an 8GB RAM and 256 ROM combination. It comes in Cosmic Black, Lunar Blue, and Aurora Blue. You can purchase it for P24,990 at authorized  Mi stores, Shopee, and Lazada.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro 5G is really a bang for your buck with its affordable price and flagship features. While it takes pride in its content creation capabilities, it also does not disappoint when it comes to gaming, making it an ideal all-around device for whatever use you might need of it.
