LifeProof FRĒ Highlights
The LifeProof FRĒ gives your phone 360° protection as its front and back cover snaps to your device and seals it well, plus it also has a built-in screen cover. I am not quite sure how the case is able to completely protect the device from water (it’s submersible 2 meters deep for 1 hour), yet maintains the sound from the phone speakers, the audio never muffled. With FRĒ, your phone can survive drops from 2 meters high.
The box comes with a pamphlet for instructions, the case, and a cleaning cloth. While in the pamphlet LifeProof mentions the case has been water tested, it’s a must to also water-test it before you install it on your phone. The instructions on how to water test is also printed out, as well as how to open and snap shut the case. For my iPhone XS LifeProof FRĒ case, opening it requires a small coin you use on the edges to twist it loose for opening.
After doing the water-test where I submerged the case underwater for 30 minutes (the inside was completely dry, check!), it was time to install it on my phone. The case is considerably thick because of its shockproof properties, so it made my phone grip a little more wider and took some time getting used to. The built-in screen cover doesn’t have much glare, which is good, but there’s a slight gap between it and the phone screen itself, so when you type or swipe, you may encounter some touch screen lag, but it’s negligible.
I have to admit, I had some trust issues when I had to experience for myself whether or not LifeProof’s claims of water and drop resistance were true. This was the first time I was deliberately ‘careless’ about a gadget and I felt a little guilty—yet satisfied! Ultimately, it was a total relief to see for myself my phone surviving several faucet runs and floor drops. It felt so freeing!
