8 Card & Board Games to Play with Your Family and Friends

Beat the boredom at home with these card and board games!

Let’s play a game!

We really are thankful that technology provides us with entertainment during these trying times when we’re mostly staying safe at home. But despite the many games we can play on our PCs and handheld devices, it is always a fun idea for the family to gather around and enjoy a classic board game or card game with no distractions!

If you’re planning to play with the fam or the squad, this list is for you! We’ve rounded up some of the most fun board games and card games you could play, plus the shops where you can purchase them!

UNO

UNO remains to be one of the most enjoyable party games you can play with your family and friends. The rules are simple: you take turns drawing cards and matching the card on top of the deck, either by color or by number, and the first player to get rid of their cards wins with a triumphant “UNO!” What makes this game really satisfying is the fact that you can make your opponents draw multiple cards just when they thought they’re ahead of everyone!

5 Second Rule

If you’re quick in enumerating things, you’d enjoy playing 5 Second Rule! You just draw a card from the game’s deck and you have five seconds to give what the card wants. Maybe it needs “3 Dice Games”, “3 Sciences”, or “3 Famous Bald People”. While it sounds easy, the pressure of answering within five seconds and going against your friends and family can really make this game a fun yet challenging one!

Jenga Bridge

Unlike other board and card games that require quick thinking and strategy, Jenga leans more on focus and dexterity, and so it doesn’t really take too much time on the learning part. You just stack and build a tower out of the wooden blocks, and you take turns pulling out a block until the whole tower falls apart! But if that doesn’t challenge you enough, then you should try Jenga Bridge, where you stack the Jenga tower on a wooden, wobbly bridge!

Cards Against Humanity

If you and your playmates can appreciate dark humor, you should really try Cards Against Humanity! A player called Card Czar will draw a black card, which either contains a question or a fill-in-the-blank phrase, and the other players will answer with their white cards! The Card Czar will then award the point to the funniest and wittiest answer.

Quickwits

Here’s another game that involves quick thinking like the 5 Second Rule. On Quickwits, you don’t have to give three examples for each category, but you’d have to shout your answer faster than your opponents. Here are the rules: you all draw a card, and when your card’s symbol matches with an opponent’s card, you two will have to shout an answer for each other’s cards. The first person who was quick enough to blurt out an answer first, gets both of the cards. The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins!

You’ve seen it multiple times on TV and in movies, and maybe now’s the time that you actually learn how to play Dungeons & Dragons! This one is recommended for those who are committed to learning the rules of this intricate high fantasy tabletop game. Besides the materials for the game, you’ll also need your imagination to make this game truly enjoyable!

Scrabble

For the word buffs out there, Scrabble is the go-to board game. For someone to ace this game, not only do they need to have a wide vocabulary, they should also be able to form the best words by jumbling the letters that they have. If you’re not familiar with the gameplay, you and your opponents just need to form words on the board using the letters you draw from the bag. Some tiles on the board can multiply your scores while some of the letters will give you high points like the letters X and Z.
