Les Néréides, an iconic French jewelry design house known for its handcrafted romantic and lyrical designs, has finally opened its first store in the Philippines.
The official distributors, which includes Peejay and Anne Yambao, Arthur and Martha King, Kristine Dee, Ninoy Roco and Paul Syjuco, celebrated the momentous occasion with a private viewing party of the intricate and unique collections they personally curated for Manila-based clients.
The friends, who are long-time customers and fans of the brand, first got in touch with the executives of Les Néréides through Peejay when he emailed them a product query last year on behalf of his wife Anne.
Serendipitous partnership, from customer to distributor
“It was around five years ago that Les Néréides started aggressively expanding in Asia,” said Peejay. “They were able to select partners early on from Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore, but hadn’t found anyone from the Philippines.”
“I emailed them about a product inquiry and somehow got into a discussion about bringing the brand to Manila. They liked the trajectory and principles of my company which enabled us to win their business.”
In choosing their partners, it was automatic for the Yambaos to approach Ninoy who is a business associate in several other ventures, and the Kings who first introduced Les Néréides to them. Kristine and Paul, on the other hand, will lend their expertise in jewelry when it comes to choosing which pieces will be good to bring to the Philippines.
First Encounter in Santorini
Martha said she is excited to be bringing Les Néréides, which she used to only see on her trips, to the Philippines.
“I’ve loved the brand since I first bought from their shop three years ago in Santorini. The pieces are eye-catching, the designs are well thought-out and the craftsmanship is undeniable.”
What sets Les Néréides apart from other brands lies in how their costume jewelries are treated – with techniques used on fine jewelry.
Designed in France, each piece is meticulously handmade by artisans. Made of malleable brass, the jewels are gilded with 14k fine gold, and molds perfectly to the execution of elaborate designs.
The delicacy with which the enameling is done and the meticulous attention given to each detail, give their jewelries vibrancy and refinement.
Colorful and handcrafted
For Anne, what first caught her attention were the vibrancy of colors.
“I usually wear very simple outfits so I like to dress them up through my accessories. Another thing that I like about the brand is that the designs are varied and versatile. For example, Martha tends to be bold with her choice of accessories and I prefer to be subtle with mine, but we’re both able to find something that we like.”
For its inaugural collection, the local team selected around 350 unique designs from the Les Néréides portfolio and brought in only limited pieces for each one in order to give their clients exclusivity.
Global brand, local love
The Philippine opening marks another significant milestone Les Nereides’ enduring quest to expand in Asia after establishing itself as one of the top luxury costume jewelry brands in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.
The distributors are already planning to open five more shops in the next two years. Currently, Les Néréides has around 100 stores and 300 point-of-sales in 40 countries around the world.
ABOUT LES NÉIRÉDES
Founded in 1980 by Pascale and Enzo Amaddeo, Les Néréides offers a unique and whimsical take on the universe of costume jewelry. Inspired by nature and animals, each collection unfolds a most poetic story and conveys emotions, while deploying the same high-precision savoir-faire as Haute Joaillerie.
The name was inspired by the Nereids of Greek mythology, the sea nymph daughters of Nereus, the Old Man of the Sea. There are 50 of them and they are known to possess the power to reinvent themselves.
As the whimsical name indicates, each Les Néréides piece is unique. Meticulously handmade by artisans selected for the quality of their raw materials. The jewels are gilded with 18k fine gold, which naturally extends the rich golden tones of the brass, used for its malleability and that lends itself perfectly to the execution of elaborate designs.
