WATCH: ‘Candyman’ Reboot from Producer Jordan Peele Unveils New Unsettling Trailer

In this new horror film, a painter becomes obsessed with the urban legend of the hook-handed killer, the Candyman.

The upcoming horror flick Candyman from director Nia DaCosta and producer Jordan Peele has just revealed a new trailer.

Candyman is a reboot of the 1992 film of the same name from director Bernard Rose. It centers on an urban legend about a hook-handed spirit that can be summoned by saying its name, Candyman, five times in front of the mirror. Check out the new trailer of the reboot below:

This “spiritual sequel” to the original film is set a decade after the last of the Cabrini Towers were torn down. Visual artist Anthony McCoy and his girlfriend Brianna have just moved into a luxury loft condo in Cabrini. Experiencing an artist’s block in his career, Anthony becomes obsessed with the urban legend of Candyman after hearing its true story from a Cabrini old-timer. Turning the macabre details of the story into the subject of his latest, Anthony unknowingly opens a door to a past that will unravel his own sanity.

Jordan Peele is best known for directing Get Out and Us— gripping horror films that are infused with social commentaries. Meanwhile, director Nia DaCosta will also be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the director of the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel titled The Marvels.

The film’s cast includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and Colman Domingo. It will be released on August 27. For more information, visit the film’s official website.
