8 Facts About Henry Golding That Will Want You To Watch His Next Hollywood Film

If you've got a good eye (and can easily spot eye candy, too), you've probably seen him in the trailer to of 'A Simple Favor. Let's unravel 8 facts about Henry Golding before we go deep into the mystery of his new film with Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick.

If you've got a good eye (and one that can easily spot eye candy, too), you've probably seen the host-turned-actor in the trailer to upcoming thriller 'A Simple Favor.'

The film centers on a mommy vlogger named Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) who seeks to unravel the mysteries behind her friend Emily's (Blake Lively) sudden disappearance, while Emily's husband Sean, a struggling author, turns to Stephanie for solace (and probably more).

Let's unravel 8 facts about Henry Golding before we go deep into the mystery of his new film with Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick.

1. He started hosting in 2008, and his gigs include a football show on ESPN before exploring the world as a presenter for BBC's The Travel Show

The Singapore-based actor started his career in entertainment through the small screen as a host and presenter. Aside from his ESPN gig, he has also worked with Channel News Asia, FOX International, E! News Asia, and Discovery Channel, which meant traveling around the world and broadcasting his handsome mug to the worldwide audience even before he shot into crazy-rich fame with his first movie. Here's a showreel Henry himself put together on YouTube for your viewing pleasure:

2. He was discovered by an accountant, who suggested he portray the role of Nick Young in what would be his very first Hollywood blockbuster film.

While everything was all set for the film adaptation of 'Crazy Rich Asians,' they had one big problem — no one has been cast as Nicholas Young, the dashing crazy rich Asian everyone can't get enough of. Thankfully, an accountant working on the film's budget during pre-production suggested Golding to the executive producer, and the director eventually hunted him down and wouldn't take no for an answer. Henry Golding eventually met the accountant and even shared it on his Instagram!

3. He traveled to the Philippines in 2013 when Yolanda (Typhoon Haiyan) ravaged Tacloban, and he considers filming in Leyte as a life-changing experience that has left a big impact on him.

Golding mentions in an interview that visiting the disaster site and seeing the aftermath the super typhoon has left, he was then amazed with the Filipino spirit to rise above challenges. One local from Leyte was able to share his story that Golding, who traveled to the town with a news team from Channel News Asia, actually stayed in his home while they were filming.

4. He was voted 'sexual healer' in high school — his dreaminess and charm does extend to his real life, after all.

When Henry Golding guested at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the talk show host asked about how he was like in high school and if he ever was seen as someone who'd become a movie star someday. "I think what I got in the end of year book was 'Sexual Healer,'" he shared, but not in the way you might think it is. Golding used to go around his high school halls singing that Marvin Gaye song. Someone needs to make his 'Sexual Healing' music video happen.

5. Sorry ladies, he's married. He has been married to his wife, a Taiwanese-Italian model and yoga teacher, since 2016.

A certified yoga instructor, Liv Lo is Golding's wifey based in Singapore, and if you follow her on Instagram she's probably become your fitspiration (not without the occasional bouts of envy when she posts about her hubby, though). The actor proposed to her when the went on a vacation to Phuket for their fourth anniversary, and the couple tied the knot in Sarawak, Golding's hometown in Malaysia.

6. He is British Malaysian — born to a father from England and a mother hailing from the Iban tribe in Malaysia.

Henry Golding was born in Sarawak, and when was eight years old, moved to the UK. Together with Discovery Channel he discovered his tribal roots and completed a bejalai, an Iban rite of manhood that took place in the forests of Borneo, and ended with him at his birthplace to receive a traditional tattoo (a painful hand-tapped one similar to our own Apo Whang-Od's) on his right thigh, a procedure which he says left him in crazy pain.

7. He used to be a professional hairstylist — he is fully trained as a hairdresser, and even styled his mom's hair for the red carpet!

Before showbiz and even before he got into hosting, the actor was working at a barber shop in UK during the weekends. He rose from the ranks, taking hair seriously by undergoing apprenticeship and training until he got a spot at London's award-winning Richard Ward Hair & Metrospa.

8. His role in his second Hollywood film is a far cry from the dashing Nick Young — he now turns to his dark side as Sean in 'A Simple Favor.'

Henry Golding may have charmed us as a Mr. Nice Guy in his first movie and in his different hosting stints, but in his second role on the big screen, we get to see him flex his acting muscles even more. Starting September 12, he will be showing us a very different side of himself in 'A Simple Favor.'

The upcoming modern-day thriller is based on the novel of the same name, and is filled with twists and betrayals, secrets and revelations, love and loyalty, murder and revenge — a far cry from his recent rom-com situation. In the film, Golding is Sean, a struggling author and Emily’s dashing husband, who finds himself drawn into Stephanie when his wife suddenly vanishes.

Does Sean have anything to hide, and is he really distraught about his wife's disappearance in their small town? Find out for yourselves when 'A Simple Favor' opens this September 12 in cinemas nationwide from Pioneer Films.
