The release date of the third Fantastic Beasts film has been moved to 2022.
The third installment of the Harry Potter spin-off was supposed to hit theaters on November 21 next year, Variety reports. The film will now open in theaters in the summer of 2022. This comes as no surprise with many films already being delayed due to the pandemic.
Along with this announcement, it has also been revealed that the franchise’s main villain, Gellert Grindelwald, will be recast. Johnny Depp who plays the part, has been asked to resign from the film.
In a short statement, Depp said that he “respected and agreed to that request.” This all happened days after Depp lost the libel case he filed against The Sun after he was tagged a “wife beater” by the tabloid in 2018.
The third Fantastic Beasts film is now in production with director David Yates, according to Warner Bros. The franchise began with the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 2016, which followed the magizoologist Newt Scamander. It is a prequel to the Harry Potter films.
