Dune is based on the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. It is set thousands of years in the future where technology has greatly advanced, but the form of government has taken a step back. We follow the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant young man who must journey to the most dangerous planet in the universe– the desert planet of Arrakis, also known as Dune. Here lies the most precious commodity in existence, and Atreides must brave its harsh terrains to save his people’s future.

This is not the first time that this novel, the first in Herbert’s series of books, has been adapted for the screen. A Dune film was released in 1984 under the direction of David Lynch. Meanwhile in the early 2000s, the SyFy network adapted both Dune and Children of Dune into TV shows.

The upcoming Dune film will now be directed by Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve, under Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures. The film is currently set for release on December 18, 2020. For more information,
