WATCH: Alfre Woodard in Death Row Film ‘Clemency’

Award-winning actress Alfre Woodard faces her demons after years of carrying out inmate executions in the film 'Clemency.'

A new death row drama is heading to the theaters on December, and people are already betting that it is also heading for the Oscars.

In the film Clemency, award-winning actress Alfre Woodard plays the role of prison warden Bernadine Williams, who's finally had enough after years of carrying out death row executions. As she prepares for the next inmate's execution, Bernadine will have to confront the psychological and emotional demons that have grown within her through the years.

Watch the film's trailer below:

Winning an Oscar for this film does not seem far-fetched as the film already won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance earlier this year. Opposite Woodard is Aldis Hodge who takes the role of the condemned prisoner, while other stars included in the film are Richard Schiff, Wendell Pierce, Danielle Brooks and Richard Gunn.

Clemency is directed by Chinoye Chukwu and distributed by Neon. It is set for release in the US on December 27.
