Robbie Amell is the Courageous Chris Redfield in ‘Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City’

Catch the film in theaters this December 15!

Raccoon Cityā€™s small-town all-American hero Chris Redfield is played by Robbie Amell (Upload, The Tomorrow People, TVā€™sĀ The Flash) in the new action-horrorĀ Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon CityĀ (in Philippine cinemas Dec. 15).

Watch the filmā€™s Nightmare Trailer below:

In the film, Claire is the stranger who goes back to her childhood town because she has a sense that something is wrong and feels a deep urgency to get to her brother, Chris, to warn him. ā€œBut when we meet Claire and Chris as adults, we notice quite quickly that something has happened between them,ā€ explains Kaya Scodelario who plays Claire. ā€œThey find it very difficult to communicate. They donā€™t quite trust each other. As the story progresses, we learn they have a bond, borne through a traumatic childhood, that theyā€™ve learnt to deal with in opposite ways. Chris joined the police and Claire has gone on the street. As we follow them, they find a way to unite and come back to each other.ā€

ā€œChris is the one who drank the Kool-Aid, the one who kept believing in Umbrella,ā€ says producer Robert Kulzer. ā€œHe had committed his life to Raccoon and to Umbrella, and felt Dr. Birkin was a father-figure, a mentor to him. He has clearly forgotten or suppressed any evil or creepy stuff that happened when they were kids.ā€

ā€œI grew up playing all the Resident Evil games,ā€ says Amell, ā€œand itā€™s a little bit of a dream come true to play an iconic character from my childhood. I remember sitting in my basement, at night, playing the first game ā€“ the dogs jumped through the window, and I got the life scared out of me. I loved the games from that point on, I loved how scary they were.ā€

As a longtime fan, Amell says that stepping into the costumes of the characters he knew so well was thrilling. ā€œOne of the best days was the first costume fitting, trying on different versions of Chrisā€™ bulletproof vest,ā€ recalls Amell. ā€œOne was from the Vietnam war ā€“ almost exactly the iconic green vest Chris wears in the video game. When I put that on, it was clear ā€“ this was the one. It sounds silly, but itā€™s the iconic character piece.ā€

Returning to the origins of the massively popular Resident Evil franchise, fan and filmmaker Johannes Roberts brings the games to life for a whole new generation of fans. In Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The companyā€™s exodus left the city a wastelandā€¦with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, a group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.

The film is written & directed by Johannes Roberts, produced by Robert Kulzer, James Harris, Hartley Gorenstein.  The cast is led by Kaya Scodelario, Hannah John-Kamen, Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper, Avan Jogia, with Donal Logue and Neal McDonough.
