LOOK: Timothée Chalamet as Young Willy Wonka for the Upcoming ‘Charlie & The Chocolate Factory’ Prequel

We'll see the young Wonka onscreen in 2023!

Timothée Chalamet of Call Me By Your Name and the upcoming Dune remake is soon playing the titular role in the upcoming film, Wonka.

Inspired by Roald Dahl’s Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, this prequel film will explore the earlier years of Willy Wonka who runs the immense establishment that’s filled with sweets. Through his Instagram account, Chalamet gave fans a sneak peek of the film through a photo of him wearing the iconic getup of the character– a combination of the clothes worn by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp in the film adaptations of Dahl’s original work.

The actor also shared a photo of what appears to be a walking cane, with its handle opening up like a flower to reveal a small present inside. “The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last …” Chalamet stated in the caption, adding “WONKA” between a factory emoji and a chocolate bar emoji.

The original film follows Charlie Bucket and the other kids who got the golden tickets hidden in chocolate bars and won the opportunity to visit Willy Wonka’s whimsical factory. In this prequel, fans can expect to see Wonka’s life before he got the factory and how he met his future employees, the Oompa Loompas.

Directed by Paul King, the movie also stars Rowan Atkinson, Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key, Sally Hawkins Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Mathew Baynton, Jim Carter, and Rich Fulcher. It is set for release on March 17, 2023.
