McDo Strawless Lids

McDonald’s Philippines Introduces Strawless Lids As Their Way to Reduce Waste

In June 2021, McDonaldā€™s Philippines started introducing strawless lids across several of its stores. This move is in line with the companyā€™s goal of significantly reducing waste by minimizing the need of consumers for straws.

Now being used in select stores in Metro Manila, the strawless lids will be replacing the flat lids used for iced beverages of McDonaldā€™s which includes all its soft drinks and juices, iced tea and all variants of Iced Coffee. This will be available for take-out, drive-thru and delivery.

This shift in packaging follows the change in McDonaldā€™s policy regarding the distribution of straws, which started as early as 2018 when restaurants nationwide limited the distribution of its straws to select cold beverages only, namely the McFloat, Coffee Float, Milk Tea and McFreeze.

ā€œBy testing these strawless lids, we aim to continue our journey to reduce waste. Through this change, we will be able make strides in our waste reduction strategy, while ensuring that our consumers are able to enjoy their iced cold drinks along with their favorite McDonaldā€™s meals, one less straw at a time. We look forward to our customersā€™ positive response to this initiative and rolling this out to more stores in the country in the coming months” says Corporate Communications Head, of McDonaldā€™s Philippines Adi Hernandez.

As the company understands this calls for a change in the way their products are consumed, the company invites consumers to answer this survey to learn what they think of this shift in packaging: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/6354749/MCDSURVEY.
