Tagaytay’s many charms have elevated it as the perfect destination getaway for many. Its proximity to the metro, bundled with the easy vacation vibes it offers has made it a favorite of weekend travelers who want to make the best out of a two-hour drive from the city. Of course, a visit to this place is never complete without having to try its amazing food spots and iconic dishes. Here, we list all the spots you should NEVER miss the next time you’re planning to drop by this southern city.
1. Breakfast at Antonio’s
Address: E. Aguinaldo Highway, Barangay Tagaytay, 4120 Cavite
Leaving this breakfast place off this list would be like committing a major crime. Breakfast at Antonio’s has become so synonymous with Tagaytay’s idyllic charm that it is now a common starting point for those who visit the city. Known for its amazing breakfast dishes and solid menu that includes European plates, this quaint restaurant also makes for the perfect place to chill because of the wonderful view of the city’s landscape that it offers. This casual family dining restaurant is also very popular for its freshly baked bread that are perfect to be paired with their homemade curds and jams.
2. El Cocinero
Address: Nasugbu Hwy, Tagaytay, Cavite
Tucked away in the Santorini-inspired real estate property La Bella is El Cocinero, an intimate Spanish restaurant that has been culling a strong but silent following since its establishment. It is the perfect place to escape to if you want to go a little incognito because of its off-the-grid location in a residential area at Barangay Neogan that has also been dubbed as a “health and wellness haven”. Don’t miss out on their seafood paella, which comes with a healthy serving of crabs and prawns, and tapas that are packed with the local flavors of Spain. Throw in a glass or two of Sangria to complete the experience.
3. Leslie’s Restaurant
Address: Aguinaldo Highway, Tagaytay
If Tagaytay has a crowning jewel when it comes to food, it would, without a doubt, be the famous Bulalo. While the city is peppered with so many iconic food spots offering the fare, there’s at least a level of general consensus about Leslie’s being one of the best among the flock. You’ve never really had good Bulalo until you’ve tried their special, which comes in a bowl filled with tender, fall-off-the-bone beef, fresh vegetables, corn cob slices, and flavorful bone marrow. Leslie’s also has a pretty solid range of Filipino food on its menu which features the usual suspects like Sisig, Crispy Pata, and Barbecues. Make sure to find a good spot where you can enjoy the view of Taal Lake while you’re gobbling up the food there!
Address: The Boutique Bed & Breakfast, 45 Emilio Aguinaldo Hwy, Silang Junction South, Tagaytay, Cavite
This Baguio original has collected a strong following when it opened in Tagaytay because of one thing: everything about Tsokolateria exudes warmth—from the look of their interiors, the brunch favorites on their menu, down to the creativity of their dishes. We mean, who would ever have thought that chocolate can work with anything? Every dish in this brunch place’s menu is infused with chocolate in one form or another, like their Native Chili Tsoko Con Carne—which is the perfect medley of Baguio potato fries, fresh kamote, sili sigang aglio olio, and chocolate—and their Mushroom Risotto which comes with a Tsoko Vinaigrette. Their Tablea Champorado is also a must-try with its wonderful combination of mountain rice, native tablea, adobo flakes, and crispy fish chips.
5. Rowena’s Pasalubong and Restaurant
Address: 152 Barangay Francisco, Tagaytay – Sta. Rosa Road, Tagaytay, Cavite
Anyone who has been to Tagaytay knows that a trip there wouldn’t be complete without stopping by this pasalubong place. Rowena’s Pasalubong and Restaurant has had decades of experience in churning out the best treats, from chocolate crinkles to their infamous tarts (we recommend you get a box or two of their mixed flavors!). Though known for its takehome sweet and savory bites, its branch in Rotonda also offers tasty homecooked meals like Bulalo and Kare-Kare to name a few.
6. Siglo Modern Filipino Restaurant
Address: 3500 Tagaytay – Calamba Rd, Tagaytay, Cavite
Siglo pays homage to the beauty of Filipino gastronomy by offering cuisines tweaked with a modern touch. The restaurant features various dishes culled from different parts of the Philippines and supports local farmers by using heirloom ingredients like barako, siling labuyo, and adlai. Their Lomi is the perfect bowl to order if you’re craving for something that can warm yourself on a chilly day, but they have other plates—which are all superb when it comes to presentation, BTW!—which will make you put Siglo as one of the tops in your Tagaytay food favorites. We love the Adobo Lagitik sa Pinya, a pork belly adobo dish placed in a whole pineapple, and the Tawilis Malunggay Pasta made with freshwater sardinella and moringa pasta.
7. Deli de San Honore
Address: 9060 Zambal Road, Barangay, Tagaytay, Cavite
This pizza place is the perfect spot to visit if you've been craving some good old comfort Italian dishes. Named after the saint of bakers, Deli de San Honore lives up to its inspiration by churning some of the best-tasting soul food in the city. Their brick oven pizzas are some of the closest you can get to tasting Italian pies without booking a flight, and their baked bread is just as amazing as well! One of our favorites, however, is their sumptuous Roasted Bone Marrow which you can enjoy with their perfectly Grilled Ciabatta. It’s heaven in a bite!
8. Balay Dako
Address: Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway, Tagaytay City
This restaurant, which is helmed by the same mastermind behind Antonio’s, is the group’s foray into comfort Filipino cuisines. It specifically features cuisines tapping into Tagaytay’s iconic dishes like the Bulalo na Baka, though it also touches other local dishes that are familiar to everyone who knows their Filipino food. Our favorites are the Double Fried Chicken Inasal which is equal parts tender and flavorful and their own version of Ilocos’ Kansi. Expect to experience the same elegant touch that’s iconic to Antonio’s group of restaurants when you visit the place.
9. Bag of Beans
Address: Nasugbu Hwy, Tagaytay, Cavite
Another iconic Tagaytay spot is Bag of Beans, a quaint brunch place that seems to have jumped straight out of an interior design glossy. Many people are drawn to this food spot because of its interiors—every corner is perfect for Instagram!—, but it also has a pretty good menu that will make you want to plan your second visit as soon as you take the first bite off its food. Bag of Beans has a good selection of breakfast dishes and light brunch plates, but we especially like their roast (obviously) and their desserts! Their frozen Blueberry Cheesecake is just yum!
10. Char’s Garden Cafe
Address: Santa Rosa – Tagaytay Rd, Silang, Cavite
Another Filipino restaurant that you can’t miss on your Tagaytay escape is Char’s Garden Cafe, a food spot where you can enjoy uncomplicated and tasty local cuisines in the middle of greenery and flora. Almost everything in their menu is worth trying, but we have especially fallen in love with their Kare-Kareng Bagnet which is a perfect combination of savory soup and crunchy pork. Their Pancit, which has generous toppings of greens, eggs, and meat is also very filling, not to mention affordable! It’ll be better to visit this place if you are in a group because most of their orders can serve about two to three people.
