Set to give its customers an authentic experience with their savory Japanese pancakes, Dohtonbori Philippines opens today in Greenhills, its first outlet in the country.
Dohtonbori is a popular restaurant chain that labels itself as serving Japanese soul food, and has been serving Japan since 1990; they have since then expanded from Tokyo to overseas, with stores in Thailand, Taiwan, and now the Philippines.
The restaurant specializes in okonomiyaki, commonly known as a Japanese pancake, minus the sweetness of the typical western pancakes — the similarity would be its shape, but the basic components of Dohtonbori's okonomiyaki are flour, egg, shredded cabbage, bonito and seaweed flakes — the pancakes are also grilled 'as you like' (the translation of 'okonomi') on the tabletop, letting customers interact with their food. These are also usually topped with a drizzling of mayonnaise and a special brown sauce.

As its name describes, okonomiyaki here can be ordered to your liking, as their are many possible combinations of ingredients and meats (including seafood and bacon) to include on your Japanese pancake. They have a wide array of okonomiyaki and monjyayaki (a pancake similar to okonomiyaki with a different texture), and have already produced over 200 menus on their specialties. Now that Dohtonbori has opened, it is now the restaurant serving the widest variety of cook-your-own okonomiyaki in the metro.
Aside from their specialty okonomiyaki, Dohtonbori also offers ramen bowls and rice bowl staples like Gyudon, Tempura Don, and Katsudon.
