Gringo: Your new favorite amigo opens at The Block, SM North EDSA

If you love chicken, ribs and a good time, Gringo will now be officially your favorite amigo.

If you love chicken, ribs and a good time, Gringo will now be officially your favorite amigo. From its mix and match decor to its appetizing spread, this restaurant will make you feel like you're eating at home and will leave you satisfied; you'd want to go back for more. What's interesting is that every dish tastes fresh yet very familiar as if Gringo knew what you would like to feast on already.

Gringo hosts the best get-togethers along with his closest amigos and cooks up one mean Mexican-Latin feast. What surprised us was the tray of overloaded Nacho Grande (P265) that's oh-so-packed with flavor — shreds of smokey chicken, drizzled with a tart sauce, chopped cilantro, mildly hot salsa on top of crunchy chips — that we haven't encountered in other nachos we've ever tried before. We loved it so much that we almost wiped the tray clean!

Their flame-grilled chicken comes in two varieties — the Gringo Original Chicken (P225/quarter with 2 sides; P365/half with 3 sides; P648/whole with 3 sides) which is coated in traditional Mexican-Latin spices and the Gringo Southern Spice Chicken (P235/quarter with 2 sides; P375/half with 3 sides; P655/whole with 3 sides) which has a Southern American blend of herbs and spices and is perfectly charred outside. Both are best eaten with two of their signature sauces: lemon herb (our favorite!) and hot sauce.

You can't get any porkier than their Porky Pork Belly (P105/piece) street taco which has a generous amount of pork belly slices that's been perfectly fried to achieve its golden shade with shreds of crisp greens and a drizzle of their secret sauce wrapped in soft taco just how I like it!

We actually asked for knives before starting our meal but figured we didn't need it after we forked our way into this completely fall-off-the-bone Baby Back Ribs (P365/half with 2 sides; P745/full rack with 3 sides; P1,099/2 full racks with 4 sides). It has a sweet and smoky glaze that's so addicting, it will leave you licking your fingers after munching on this beast. Gringo even suggests you eat the ribs with your hands as seen on their walls.

Choose from sides like Mexican Rice, Smokey Beans, Buttered Corn and Marbled Potato Salad which ranges from P50 to P75

There are only two available desserts on Gringo's menu: their Queso Sorbetes (P85/2 scoops) and the Mango Cream Sticky Rice (P165). And if you want to hit two birds with one stone (well, you know what I mean), I suggest you get the latter so you can indulge in their queso ice cream that's full of tiny bits of cheese and their own take on the Thai sticky rice dessert. Muy excelente!

Other can't-miss dishes on the menu include the Truffle Queso Quesadillas, the tender 1875 Pot Stewed Beef (P365), the lip-smacking Lemon Garlic Butter Crab (P155/100g) and their selection of burritos and tacos.

Gringo is located at The Block, SM North EDSA and will soon open at Fort Residences, Bonifacio Global City. Like them on Facebook and follow them on Instagram for more details.
