Artist Bobit Segismundo’s works exhibited at Art Elements SM Aura show Pop, Dadaist and Fauvistic influences.
His subjects seem to belong to a variegated spectrum of famous characters, which range from the parabolic spheres of Yayoi, Andy’s silk-screened personages, John’s immortalized imagination, Madonna’s panoramic music and symbolisms, Audrey’s portrait of a classy woman, Salvador’s transcendence to time and space, Frida’s emblematic feminism, Charlie’s silent slapstick, Vincent’s world of Starry Starry nights and Ai Wei Wei’s struggles and battles. These characters always manage to leave the artist intrigued and breathless.
In sassy satiric fun, Segismundo’s convivial works imbue the characters with subliminal messages. Unrelated visual allusions and regal theatrical elements seem to burst out in every artist’s piece, yet orchestrate a meaning.
Mocking and metaphoric, Segismundo is known to infuse his works with non-conventional aesthetic, socio-cultural and political values. They are marked by what may appear nonsense and the travesties of the era. You may love them or hate them: these persons of interest. For artist Segismundo, they are representations of creativity and innovation, struggle and resiliency, humor and survival, to name a few. As subjects in this exhibition, it was a challenge for the artist to portray them as famous icons. Segismundo hopes that he gave enough meaning and justice to who they are and what they stand for.
You may visit Art Elements at SM Aura 3/f to see his works until the 3rd week of August 2018. For more information, kindly e-mail artelements@surfshop.net.ph.
