The long wait is almost over! Baskin-Robbins, the World’s Largest Chain of Ice Cream Shops, will open its first Philippine store at the Upper Ground of Central Square, 5th Avenue corner 30th Street, Bonifacio Global City this July. Our media invite says that the grand opening is scheduled on July 1. And as per the organizers, "it will open to the public, shortly after that."

While waiting for the official announcement (we'll keep you updated as soon as we have the official date), arm yourselves first with 10 fun facts about the popular ice cream brand.
1. Baskin-Robbins’ logo has the number 31 (in pink) in it to represent the 31 original flavors of ice cream they concocted. They initially created 31 flavors so you’ll get to try a different flavor each day of the month.

2. Burton "Burt" Baskin and Irvine "Irv" Robbins are brothers-in-law. Irv opened Snowbird Ice Cream in Glendale, California, while Burt opened Burton's Ice Cream Shop in Pasadena, CA. In 1953, they merged, dropped the separate identities of Snowbird and Burton's, and formed Baskin-Robbins. The order of their names in new brand Baskin-Robbins was decided with a coin toss.

3. Baskin-Robbins makes hundreds of new ice creams a year but not all of them make it to market. Among the silly flavors that never made it are: Ketchup, Lox and Bagels, and Grape Britain.

4. Current events sometimes inspire their flavors. In 1969, Baskin-Robbins made a Lunar Cheesecake ice cream, the day after man landed on the moon.
5. Baskin-Robbins was first to introduce ice cream cakes to the public.

6. The late Irv Robbins’ car had the license plate: '31 BR. His boat was named 32nd Flavor.
7. Robbins’ home pool is shaped like an ice cream cone.

8. Baskin-Robbins holds the Guinness World Record for the largest cup of ice cream. The ice monster weighed 8,865 lb (4,021 kg), stood 6.45 ft (1.96 m) tall, and was made at their headquarters in Canton, Massachusetts, USA on 13 September 2005.

9. Many years before he swore to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, President Barack Obama scooped, sold, and served, Baskin-Robbins ice cream. According to his Facebook page, in 1978, he worked the counter at Baskin-Robbins in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Other famous former Baskin-Robbins scoopers include TV hosts Leeza Gibbons and Rosie O'Donnell, Chef Bobby Flay, actresses Julia Roberts, Taryn Manning and Chandra Wilson, actors Eric Dane and Randy Quaid and New York Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes.
10. Today Baskin-Robbins colors are pink and blue, but the original colors were brown (chocolate) and pink (cherry).
