Feature writer Ma. Leonila “Leony” Garcia (center) won the Outstanding Published Feature Story during the 2016 Lasallian Scholarum Awards held on October 3 at the Shangri-la Hotel Makati. With him are Dr. Gerardo Janairo, DLSU Chancellor, and Jayson Mangalus, 2015 winner of the same category. Garcia’s winning is the first Lasallian Scholarum Awards for her and for the Business Mirror which she represents.  She received a cash prize and a trophy designed and crafted by renowned artist Daniel dela Cruz. Her article, titled Journey of a Lasallian Scholar, chronicles a Lassalian student’s journey from ordinary to extraordinary. (Read: http://www.businessmirror.com.ph/journey-of-a-lasallian-scholar/)

Garcia's current involvements are with the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) as Public Relations Officer, as tourism advocate and as volunteer to several NGOs and charitable projects advancing the cause of young children’s health and education.

The Lasallian Scholarum Awards sponsored by the De La Salle University’s Office for Strategic Communications, recognizes outstanding media coverage of Filipino youth and education issues by print, photo, broadcast, and campus journalists. This year’s theme is "Challenging Perspectives: Examining youth and education stories through fresh eyes."
