Nikuya Charcoal Grill and Japanese Shabu-Shabu is the newest food concept of TV personality and host Grace Lee. Nikuya means "butcher" in Japanese so it's just fitting that it also has a mini meat station where they sell Grade A5 Wagyu Beef from Buta+Wagyu, another restaurant owned by Lee.
Most restaurants in the metro offer meat grilling and shabu-shabu on their own. At Nikuya, you get two of your favorites – Korean BBQ and shabu-shabu – in one roof. They also offer a selection of appetizers, soups, noodles, rice bowls and grilled meat choices. Every table is served with free appetizers – kimchi, sweet anchovies and cubed radish kimchi – you can munch on while they prepare your orders.
Their Shabu-Shabu (P598) comes with a platter of assorted vegetables, fish balls, squid balls, O-deng sticks (skewered fish cake made in-house) with your two choices of stock: Pork and Chicken, Dashi Kombu (light seaweed stock) and Sukiyaki (sweet soy-based stock). You can also order additional meat which you can dunk in the broth – Ribeye (P658), Pork Belly (P148) or Chuck Roll (P598). You are also served a plain shoyu, add garlic and chilis where you can dip the meat and a sesame dressing to dip the vegetables with.
For the Charcoal Grill, there are a number of meat cuts you can choose from: Karubi (P498) which is a boneless short rib, Ribeye (P1258), Samgyupsal (P238), Spicy Ox Tail (P168), Dak Galbi (P138) and more. So whether it's a date night, a holiday get-together with your barkada or cousins, Nikuya is perfect if you can't decide if you want Korean BBQ or Japanese Shabu-Shabu, because here, you can have both!
