Halloween's this weekend! What better way to spend it than watching movies that will give you and your friends a good fright night. Not into dressing up and attending parties? Give your barkada a ring and grab some popcorn, here's a list of hair-raising flicks to watch for that classic scare-athon at home:
1. The Conjuring 2
Synopsis: Upon arrival, they meet Peggy Hodgson who is a single mother of four who tells them there's something evil in their home. The couple believes her story when the youngest daughter starts to show that she has been possessed by demons. As the couple tries to help the girl, they become the next target of the demonic entities.
2. Don't Breathe
Synopsis: It follows the story of three friends: Rocky, Alex and Money who are three delinquents making a living by breaking into homes secured by Alex's father's security company and selling them. They then receive a tip that a blind Army veteran living in an abandoned neighborhood has $300,000 in cash so they break in and gets trapped thinking they'll easily get away with it.
3. Lights Out
Synopsis: A young woman sees a silhouette of a woman with monstrously long fingers but when she turns the lights on at the warehouse, she sees nothing. She then warns the owner about it and leaves. The owner then gets dragged into the darkness and is killed by the bloodthirsty supernatural being that lurks in the dark. The young woman later learns about her family's past and must protect herself and her little brother.
4. The Boy
Synopsis: An American nanny is shocked to know that her new English family's boy who she has to take care of is actually a life-sized doll. After violating a list of strict rules which the parents have given her, a couple of disturbing events make her believe that the doll is actually alive.
5. Ouija: Origin of Evil
Synopsis: A prequel to the 2014 film Ouija, it travels back in 1965 Los Angeles where a widowed mother and her two daughters add a new stunt in their seance scam business. They then accidentally invite a merciless evil spirit into their home and experience the unthinkable.
6. The Other Side of the Door
Synopsis: It is about a perfect family until a tragic accident happens to their son. The mother then learns about an ancient ritual that will bring him back just so they could say their goodbyes. She travels to a temple where a door serves as a portal between two worlds but she violates a sacred warning to never open the door.
7. 10 Cloverfield Lane
Synopsis: After surviving a car accident, Michelle wakes up and finds herself locked in a basement with two men. Howard tells her that there have been a massive chemical attack which made the air unbreathable and they will only survive if they remain inside. Despite the comforts of home, Howard's controlling nature makes Michelle determined to escape at any cost. After taking matters into her own hands, she finally discovers what has been really happening in the outside world.
8. Rings
Synopsis: It is the third film in the American Ring franchise, directly following The Ring and The Ring Two. It tells the story of a young woman who becomes worried about her boyfriend when explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape that's said to kill the watcher seven days after viewing it. She then sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and discovers a horrifying twist: there's a movie within a movie that no one has ever seen before!
9. Blair Witch
Synopsis: It is the third film in the Blair Witch series and a direct sequel to The Blair Witch Project. It follows the story of a group of college students who goes on an adventure into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of Heather Donahue years ago. The group becomes hopeful when locals offer as guides through the dark forest but as the night deepened, the group is visited by a threatening presence.
10. Friend Request
Synopsis: Enjoying college life as a popular student, Laura shares everything with her more than 800 friends on Facebook. But one day, after accepting a friend request from a social outcast named Marina, Laura’s life is cursed, and she finds herself fighting a demonic presence that wants to make her lonely by killing all her close friends. Laura must then solve the mystery behind Marina and her Facebook profile in order to break the curse.
