King Sue’s best-selling hams have been part of holiday celebrations for 85 years and are a popular choice as giveaways.
They are the result of one man’s determination to succeed in life. It was 85 years ago when Mr. Cu Un Kay travelled to Manila from Fookien to look for an uncle whom he knew owned a cold storage facility somewhere in Echague. He later on met a German national who taught him the processing techniques of ham and cold cuts.
Mr. Cu experimented and improved on the production process using simple kitchen tools to perfect his Bone-in Chinese ham, which has become the trademark product of the company. Once he was satisfied with his products, he launched his own company, naming it King Sue, after the family’s surname and “Sue” from Su-weh, a Fookien term meaning small. The company was incorporated in 1970 by Mr. Cu Un Kay’s 10 children, and to this day, King Sue Ham & Sausage Co., Inc. continues to innovate and expand all the while holding true to its roots.
“To keep the brand abreast of the competition, King Sue ventured into the production of cold cuts and other product lines, using the latest technology to keep these fresh and of premium quality,” says Fernando King, president of King Sue Ham & Sausage Co., Inc.
Aside from the signature hams, it has since added the popular Chorizo Bilbao, gourmet sausages, bacon, burgers, cold cuts, and Filipino favorites such as sisig, tocino, and corned beef to their offerings. These are widely patronized by corporate clients such as restaurant chains, hotels and resorts, caterers and food cart businesses, aside from being a popular retail brand in major supermarkets.

The once small enterprise with modest resources has now become a “monarch” in the industry, offering products that are fit for a king’s feast.
