4 Reasons to Watch ‘Chicago: The Musical’ in Manila

So you've seen the Oscar-winning film. You still shouldn't miss out on catching this Broadway hit when it stages in Manila this December, and we list four reasons why.

Brassy, saucy, and toe-tappingly good, Chicago: The Musical is set to jazz up Manila this December. Set in the roaring '20s, Chicago showcases the alluring city of Chicago, giving audiences a killer tale of crime, song, and dance.

Chances are, you have probably seen the Oscar-winning film starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renée Zellweger. You still shouldn't miss out on catching this Broadway hit when it stages here in Manila very soon. Aside from the obvious fact that the movie and theater experience are very much different, we list four more reasons why you need to watch Chicago in Manila.

1. It is the very first time the musical will be staged in the country.

Manila has been home to international productions of world-class musicals. We've had first stagings of Cats, Mamma Mia, The Phantom of the Opera, and Wicked–all of them sold out and receiving standing ovations. Soon, Disney favorite Beauty and the Beast arrives in the country as well for its first time in Manila. To have Chicago staged in the country this year is another first, and you shouldn't miss out on the opportunity.

2. This musical is the much-awaited debut showcase of Solaire's new theater.

Chicago premieres at the Philippines’ newest luxury theatrical hotspot, The Theatre at Solaire Resort and Casino on December 3, 2014. The Theatre at Solaire officially opens its doors this year, with the musical as its first showcase. The world-class theatre can seat 1,760 guests, and is packed with the latest state-of-the-art technical and stage facilities, built to accommodate Broadway and West End musicals. Aside from the new theater, new facilities nearby include restaurants, shops, and bars.

3. Philippines is the only Asian destination of this special run of 'Chicago: The Musical.'

Unlike the previous Manila stagings where Singapore, HK, Korea, and other Asian countries were part of the tours. Not only will local broadwayheads from different regions fly in to catch this musical, expect a boost in entertainment tourism, as theater fans from our neighboring Asian countries will visit Manila to experience the musical.

4. The musical will feature an All-American Broadway cast, another first for Lunchbox Theatrical Productions in The Philippines.

Headlining the very first Manila season are two of Broadway’s sensational stars – Bianca Marroquin and Terra C. MacLeod as Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, respectively. The two lead an all-star American cast coming directly from the US. Producer and Chief Executive of Lunchbox James Cundall shares that they regularly bring in blockbuster stagings with New Zealand and Australian casts (such as Wicked and The Phantom of The Opera), so they are all the more excited to bring the global phenomenon to our shores showcasing an American cast.

'Chicago: The Musical' runs from December 3, 2014 to December 21, 2014 at Solaire Resort & Casino, 1 Solaire Blvd., Entertainment City, Pasay, Metro Manila. For ticket inquiries and reservations, call Ticketworld at (63 2) 891-9999, or buy your tickets online here.
