Epson, a world leader in digital imaging and printing solutions, recently introduced two breakthrough printers to the market, each promising unparalleled efficiency and optimum performance while adhering to the company’s commitment to make the world clean and green.
Epson Stylus® Pro WT7900
Companies engaged in the food packaging industry will find a formidable ally in the Epson Stylus® Pro WT7900 24-inch large format printer, the world’s first water-based inkjet printer that is able to print white color using Epson’s proprietary Epson UltraChrome® High Dynamic-Range (HDR) ink with white. This cutting-edge product is an example of how Epson is committed to creating industry-leading and innovative products while simultaneously reducing harsh environmental impacts.
Recently awarded by the prestigious European Digital Press (EDP)1 Association as the “Best Proofing Printer of the Year 2010”, the 24-inch large format printer is designed specifically for packaging proof printing applications. The Epson Stylus® Pro WT7900 allows flexographic and gravure printing firms to simulate proofs on inkjet coated media efficiently and affordably.
The Epson Stylus® Pro WT7900 uses a 9-color Epson UltraChrome® HDR ink set to produce a wide color gamut, including water-based white ink, to deliver high density white tints and accurate overlays which are important for packaging proof applications. The printer also comes with orange and green inks to create rich and highly accurate spot colors.
White plays a vital role in printing on transparent films, such as those used for labels on plastic bottles and snack food bags. A layer of white ink has to be laid down first on these films before other colors are added so that background colors are not visible and printed colors look more crisp and appealing. With the unique aqueous Epson UltraChrome® HDR White Ink, Epson has enabled the proofing and packaging industry to conveniently and inexpensively create printing proofs on transparent film, significantly cutting down processing time, cost and manpower while sharply reducing environmental impacts associated with proofing. Unlike traditional solvent and UV inks, the Epson UltraChrome® HDR ink with white is odorless, harmless to health, and is suitable to be used in office environments. Water-based ink on film dries as quickly after printing as ordinary ink on paper, without the need for heat. This type of proofing thus uses only slight more energy than an ordinary inkjet printer, so environmental impacts are further mitigated.
Epson Stylus® Pro GS6000
Epson Philippines Inc. has also ventured into the outdoor commercial printing industry with the introduction of the Epson Stylus Pro GS6000, offering technical advancements that are poised to dramatically impact the commercial outdoor display market. True to the Epson legacy of transforming the industry and changing the way people print, the launch of the 64-inch eight-color photo quality printer equipped with the first eco-solvent UltraChrome® GS ink technology is expected to change the local market ‘s perspective and standards in outdoor printing.
The innovative Epson UltraChrome® GS ink is a new eco solvent-based ink technology with eight individual colors, including an all new orange and green. Using this new ink technology, the Epson Stylus® Pro GS6000 can produce the industry’s widest color gamut for unparalleled output quality on nearly any solvent-based media. The printer’s new Dual-Array Micro Piezo print head has been uniquely engineered for the demands of high-production volumes. The Epson Stylus® Pro GS6000 is also one of the fastest 64-inch wide roll-to-roll printer in its class, with print speeds of up to 340 sq feet (31.5 sq meters) per hour for banner-quality printing, up to 180 sq feet (16.7 sq meters) per hour for everyday production and up to 91 square feet (8.4 sq meters) per hour for photographic signage output.
“The Epson Stylus® Pro GS6000 represents a significant turning point for the eco solvent-based printing market,” said Epson Senior General Manager Ed Bonoan. “We worked very closely with the industry for guidance to ensure that it exceeds the needs of today’s commercial outdoor printers. The result is a printer that helps sign makers maximize profits while gaining competitive advantages with superior quality, performance and reliability.”
The Epson UltraChrome® GS ink has also solved a longstanding industry concern since the eco-solvent ink technology has significantly reduced impact on both the environment and worker health.
“We mean it when we say that we will constantly improve our eco-performance in every stage of the product cycle—starting with the design and manufacture. When Epson decided to develop a commercial outdoor printer, customer and industry expectations were high. Aside from the smaller environmental footprint, the printer should demonstrate quality, flexibility, speed and reliability that add real value to high-quality signage, exhibition graphics, point-of-sale, marketing and photo applications, as well as making it ideal for fine-art reproduction,” Epson Philippines Country Manager Hideto Nakamura explained.
The Epson Stylus Pro GS60002 was also handpicked to print almost 2 meter-high sports–related art works by a prestigious list of renowned photographers, including Annie Leibovitz (Vanity Fair) and award winning Robert Lebeck. The open-air exhibition, which was a part of the cultural programme for the 12th World Championships in Athletics Berlin 2009, was entitled “In Motion – Athletics and Photography 1884 – 2009.” The exhibition of photographs showcased a cross section of 125 years of athletic sports, as well as an overview of 125 years of photographic history.
“Epson will, once again, change the landscape of both the proofing and commercial display markets with these innovative and award-winning printers. The Epson legacy of providing printing solutions that feature high-quality, speed, precision, cost and time-efficiency are, as always, expected to be delivered at a standard that is above what the current market offers,” explained Bonoan.
“These new offerings showcase Epson’s legacy of providing efficient, cost and time-saving solutions that ensure the success of local industries. The new technologies also advance our commitment to change everyone’s perspective in providing products that respond to our environmental responsibility,” concluded Nakamura-san.
