Animal Planet Embarks On A Thrilling Exploration Of The Iberian Peninsula

From scorching deserts to sweltering wetlands, watch the incredible wildlife thrive in their pursuit to survive through landscapes of wavering seasons in this stunning five-part series.

The Iberian peninsula comprises vast and varied ecosystems – from wetlands and prairies to deserts and snow-capped mountains. Within these is a plethora of flora and fauna, including some that are endemic to the area such as the Spanish imperial eagle and the Iberian lynx. From scorching deserts to sweltering wetlands, watch the incredible wildlife thrive in their pursuit to survive through landscapes of wavering seasons in this stunning five-part series. Wild Iberia premieres on Animal Planet (available nationwide on every major cable, DTH, and local provincial operator) every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. (2000 hrs), starting May 12.

It is spring and as the sun is warms up the Iberian peninsula again, love is in the air. Reptile, bird and mammal babies come into the world, but this colourful season belies a cruelty for those born in excess. Summer in Iberia is relentless, with most places experiencing a heat wave of over 30 degrees. Finding shade and water becomes a constant trial for all but the heat is a paradise for insects and arachnids. In autumn, the entire Iberian Peninsula resounds with the mating calls of the red deer, and a wetland comes to life as the rains come down in the hills of Toledo. As the year comes to an end and winter approaches, finding food gets increasingly difficult and wildlife must either learn to adapt or perish.

Discover the incredible biodiversity of Wild Iberia and the amazing changes that take place with the changing seasons, as each episode reveals fascinating animal behaviours within the ever-changing environments. The unique beauty of the region – from the metropolitan area of Seville to Spain's Coto Doñana wetlands to the mountainous ranges of Sierra Morena – is captured with dramatic aerial shots, macro photography, and super high-speed cameras.
