From Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation — the studio that gave us Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and The Mitchells vs. The Machines — comes Vivo, a new animated musical film featuring a talented voice cast led by Hamilton and In the Height‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Netflix revealed today that the film will be premiering this August 6, and with this announcement comes a new clip entitled Keep the Beat, giving us a glimpse of Vivo, the musically-gifted kinkajou (or rainforest “honey bear”).
Watch it here:
Vivo centers on Vivo, a musically-gifted kinkajou or rainforest “honey bear” who plays music to crowds in a square with his owner Andrés. However, when a tragedy strikes after Andrés receives a letter from the famous singer Marta Sandoval, inviting him to a farewell concert, Vivo must deliver a love letter to Marta, which comes in the form of a song. To do so, he enlists the help of an energetic tween named Gabi in fulfilling his owner’s wishes.
The film comes from Oscar-nominated director Kirk DeMicco (The Croods) and is co-directed by Brandon Jeffords (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2), with a script by Quiara Alegria Hudes (In the Heights). It will also be featuring all-new songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda and composer Alex Lacamoire.
Joining Miranda in the voice cast are Zoe Saldaña, Michael Rooker, Brian Tyree Henry, Nicole Byer, Ynairaly Simo, and Gloria Estefan.
