ClickTheCity Faves: What We’re Watching This Week

We're once again rounding up a few of our favorite stream-worthy things that you can try watching yourself!

We're now at the tail-end of April, and working from home is now the new normal (so is the occasional onset of cabin fever). Digital escapisim in the form of binge-watching is now probably part of your regular stay-at-home routine, so we're once again rounding up a few of our favorite stream-worthy things that you can try watching yourself!

Want to discover what we're currently enjoying? Then keep tabs on this weekly rundown where we hand-pick some of our favorite shows and films to share to the ClickTheCity community!

1. RuPaul’s Drag Race | Watch it on Netflix

It’s time, hunty! It’s time for you to immerse yourself with the gift that keeps on giving that is RuPaul’s Drag Race. Now on its 12th season, watch how these drag queens transform themselves daily from eleganza to estranga flawlessly. Hosted by the creator of the show, musician, actor, and supermodel RuPaul, the reality series is wildly entertaining and it won’t take long for you to root for your queen. To know more why you should watch RuPaul’s Drag Race, here’s a short article that I wrote about it. All seasons are available on Netflix. Don’t forget to also check our RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked and All Stars. Okkkurrrrr!

2. John Denver Trending | Watch it on iWant

The multi-award winning entry from Cinemalaya 2019, which also bagged the Best Film award, John Denver Trending is a critical flick that everyone must see and ponder on, especially during this quarantine when we are mostly stuck in our phones scrolling through social media. It tells the story of a 14-year old farm boy whose life descends into utter misery after a video of him fighting his classmate goes viral. The movie captures the painful reality where children are not exempted from cyberbullying and the scalding public opinion on social media; it's a reality where people would proudly trample on a child’s safe space and call it their freedom of expression. In the end, John Denver Trending left me disappointed, but not towards the film. It left me disappointed because I know that in real-life cases similar to this one, the guilty would likely not be held accountable. John Denver Trending is now streaming for free on iWant.

3. Coronavirus, Explained | Watch it on Netflix

From the creators of Explained is a new three-episode mini series devoted entirely to telling the story of the coronavirus. And when’s the best time to watch it and be better informed than now? The mini series tackles how the coronavirus became a pandemic as experts provide an informative overview of COVID-19. What’s noteworthy with the show is that the producer Vox Media was planning to spend 10 weeks per episode but they rushed production for the released episode in just two-and-a-half weeks while they worked remotely. But the first episode still came out factual and polished which I couldn’t stop watching. Narrated by J.K Simmons, the mini series will have two more episodes showcasing the vaccine development and what is likely to happen next.

4. Time To Hunt | Watch it on Netflix

Lee Je Hoon, Choi Woo Sik, and Ahn Jae Hong star in Time To Hunt, a film set in a dystopian world, following three friends who rob a casino to start a new life in another country. Their plan goes wrong, however, when they get chased by a man who would stop at nothing to kill them. The film had me rooting for their flawed characters, and every action they take had me at the edge of my seat, waiting for what's to happen and how they're going to survive Han every single time. In the end, I was left wanting for more – a final showdown with Han and a reunion with Ki Hoon at Jun Seok's Taiwan home. Maybe we should all save that up for the sequel, right? Definitely check out this film if you're into heist films or you want to see more of the actors' calibre outside K-dramas!
