Months after Game of Thrones wrapped up, HBO has given the go signal on House of the Dragon, a 10-episode prequel co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal.
The prequel is based on George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood and is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It will be centering on the origins of House Targaryen, as well as the earlier days of Westeros.
Miguel Sapochnik will be directing the pilot and additional episodes with a script written by Ryan Condal. Together, Sapochnik and Condal will be the showrunners to the series which will be executive produced by George R.R. Martin and Vince Gerardis.
Sapochnik is an award-winning director recognized for his works in Game of Thrones' "Battle of the Bastards" and "The Long Night". He also directed Bios, which stars Tom Hanks, and is set to debut in the fall of 2020.
Ryan Condal, on the other hand, is a co-creator and showrunner of Colony for 3 seasons. He has also written for MGM's Hercules and is adapting the graphic novel Analog as a feature for Lionsgate.
