Lapeña-Bonifacio gives an update on her projects since she first guested in the art advocacy program in 2008, including launching her first novel, In Binondo, Once Upon a War. She has also continued to nurture Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas, the children’s theater and puppetry troupe that she founded in 1977.

A playwright, puppeteer, and educator, Lapeña-Bonifacio was conferred the title “Mother of Philippine Puppetry”  in 2010 by the University of the Philippines’ Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts for her efforts in promoting Philippine stories and Asian puppetry and eventually creating a Philippine puppet tradition. She was one of seven individuals awarded as National Artist in rites held in Malacañang last October.
