Pedro Pascal Shares How Narcos’ Third Season Will Be More Explosive

“We’re not dealing with one king, we’re dealing with four!"

In the third season, Narcos shows that eliminating Pablo Escobar makes room for four more. The Cali Cartel is a much bigger problem and the DEA must prepare for the ultimate takedown. Pedro Pascal who returns to plays DEA agent Javier Peña shares how the third season of Narcos is going to be more explosive than the first two seasons.

“I think Season 3 is very different than Season 1 and Season 2 for our audience and for the surviving characters involved,” says actor Pedro Pascal. This season finds Peña promoted to a managerial position in Miami, though it’s not long before he’s back on the ground in Colombia.

Narcos chronicles real-life stories of the cocaine trade in the ‘80s and ‘90s. While the Cali Cartel played a minor part in the first two seasons, it now takes center stage, introducing viewers to the four “godfathers” who helped build the richest drug trafficking organization in the world.

“We’re not dealing with one king, we’re dealing with four,” Pascal says. “So it’s a new fight, it’s a new war, it’s new tactics. I think the characters are discovering that at the same time as the people watching the show.”

In its first two seasons, Pablo Escobar and his Medellín Cartel were flashy, bloody and ruthless to the end. The Cali Cartel, however, operates differently. “Narcoterrorism was basically invented by the likes of Pablo Escobar and his narco traffickers,” Pascal says. “The Cali people were ‘businessmen,’ and they looked like it. They played the role very, very well.”

Led by brothers Gilberto and Miguel Rodríguez Orejuela along with Pacho Herrera and Chepe Santacruz Londoño, the Cali Cartel see themselves as upper-class elite running a professional operation. While Escobar publicized his violent acts, Cali keeps theirs under wraps.

Eric Newman serves as the series’ showrunner, with Paul Marks and Andi Baiz as co-executive producers. This season’s directors include Baiz, Gabriel Ripstein, Josef Wladyka and Fernando Coimbra. Narcos is produced by Gaumont International Television for Netflix.

Netflix is now streaming all 10 episodes of Narcos Season 3. Like Netflix on Facebook and follow the on Instagram for more information.
