Squeeze in some city adventure the next time you hit Coron, Palawan for your usual water-filled adventures of island hopping, snorkeling, and diving.

Take a break from all the beach tripping and travel by land to discover more of Coron — keep one day free for a Coron Town Tour. Don't know where to begin? Here are six things to experience in your trip to their quiet little town.

1. Saint Augustine Parish Church

Founded in 1901, this chapel was first made with light materials and was then improved in 1932, with further renovations in 1969. It was only in 2008 when the church belfry was constructed and in 2011, the church underwent an expension project. While tourists can take photos of its structure and appreciate the architecture, the devout can come to pray while first-time visitors can practice the tradition of making a wish after prayer.

2. Centennial Shrine

Build in 2002, the shrine is located right across the city's basketball court. It features a giant palayok (claypot), which is the origin of the name of Coron in their dialect, Cuyonon. Trivia: Coron itself is said to be shaped like a claypot.

3. Municipal Hall of Coron

Just a short walk away from the Centennial Shrine is the city's Municipal Hall. While tourists don't normally enter the premises, its signage by the street is a popular photo-op spot for people. It's a small town, and you can get around ans see all the sights on this list by trike easily, if you won't arrange a town trip with your hotel.

4. Lualhati Park

This park is a very popular tourist attraction as it boasts of scenic coastlines and unspoilt view of the bay, perfect to photograph. It's Coron's version of the Baywalk along Roxas Boulevard. Just a short walk from this area is the town's market, and if you're feeling extra adventurous, Coron's only zipline attraction is in the area, too.

5. Coron Souvenirs & Gift Shop

No trip is complete without some pasalubong shopping, and the most popular item to bring home from Coron are cashew nuts — there are many flavors and variants to choose from, and the most popular stopover for gift shopping is Coron Souvenirs & Gift Shop located in Brgy. Poblacion 5, Bancuang, Coron. It's already your one stop shop of all the 'top hits' of Coron. Other edible goodies to check out here are their honey and danggit (dried fish), while trinkets, native products, souvenir apparel, and decor are also for sale.

6. Maquinit Hot Springs

Open daily from 8am to 10pm (P200/person entrance fee)

After a day of sightseeing and walking, end your Coron town tour with a relaxing dip in their famous natural hot springs. Maquinit is known for their natural pools of saltwater springs, the hot temperature (ranging from 39 to 41 degrees) both calming and rejuvenating for tired and aching muscles. Don't forget to pack swimwear, change of clothing, and towels if you want to wade in the hot springs; if not, you can settle yourselves into their picnic benches and cottages. Guests may bring some food to snack on (or buy from their sari-sari store).

Getting There:

Pal Express, Cebu Pacific, and Skyjet have direct flights from Manila to Busuanga Airport. Travel time is around one hour from Manila. Upon arrival at Busuanga Airport, ride a van (available outside the airport) to Coron Town proper. Sea transfers and island tours can be arranged with your hotel.

Where to Stay:

For a luxurious stay while in the convenience of good location within the town, book your stay at Two Seasons Coron Bayside Hotel. It is the only first-rate accommodation in Coron Town which boasts of bayviews. You can also arrange for day trips at the hotel, which include visits to Culion, Kayangan Lake, Sangat Wreck, Siete Pecados, and lunch at Banol Beach. Tip: savor fresh seafood, exotic fare like crocodile meat, and twists on Filipino favorites at their underwater themed restaurant, Baya.
