10 Hostels in Metro Manila Under $20 (P1,000)

Consider these artsy hostels for your next staycation experience!

While vacationing can still very much be considered a luxury, hostels have definitely made traveling a lot more attainable. Not only are they more affordable alternatives to hotels, but these shared room arrangements also make interacting with other tourists much more convenient. If you’re down to exploring new friendships or just want a convenient place to rest at when in a new city, staying at a hostel would be perfect!

Bahay Kubo Hostel

Just like hotels and bed-and-breakfasts, hostels, too, come in themes. Located right around the Malate area, Bahay Kubo boasts of a receiving area that exudes a home-y vibe. With interiors that are predominantly green and brown, any guest will instantly fall in love with its rustic and in-the-woods energy. The outside of the hostel looks like an ancestral home and its rooms are neat enough for a satisfactory overnight stay or two. Depending on the number of beds in a room, rates are between P450 to P500.

BGC Hostel

Here’s a fun fact: BGC Hostel may have BGC in its name, but none of its three branches are in Taguig. A common denominator of all of them, however, is that they all thrive in color and artsy furniture and murals. The Makati, Sampaloc, and Quezon City branches of BGC Hostel may not be the most spacious among its contemporaries, but they definitely make up for it with their style and accommodating staff. Perfect for those who are in the metro only for a quick errand or two, their rates start at P499.

Tambayan Capsule Hostel

Perhaps one of the leaders in the interior design department, Tambayan Capsule is both a sight to behold and an inn to experience. Although not exactly a capsule per se, all their beds have an outlet, a fan, and a little lamp for your vacationing convenience. Packed with roller blades to keep your privacy, it’s easy to understand why so many travelers take dozens of photos here. Very close by Robinsons Manila, a night at this lovely hostel will cost you P700.

Happy Turtle Hostel

Nestled along the busy streets of Cubao in Quezon City, Happy Turtle is a quiet hostel that takes you back to the simplicity of being at home. Their rooms are comfortable for one to move around and stretch, and there are plenty of eateries and malls within walking distance. Perfect for anyone needing to accomplish a quick assignment in the neighborhood, Happy Turtle will welcome you with open arms at P700 a night. Should you need to stay around the metro a little bit longer, they have weekly and monthly arrangements, too.

OLA Hostel Manila

Another strong contender in the interior design game is OLA Hostel Manila. With common areas that are bright, roomy, and well-curated with plants and wooden fixtures, this hostel can easily become anyone’s staycation venue of choice. Located near the boundary of Manila and Makati City, this dreamy hostel is near commercial destinations like Mall of Asia, Glorietta, and even the university belt. It also doesn’t hurt that their roof deck bar offers a variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Depending on the number of allowable people in a room, rates go from P400 to P500.

Lokal Hostel

Though there are many of its kind in Makati City, Lokal Hostel is probably one of the more popular hostels around. A common favorite among local and foreign guests, this place is colorful, vibrant, and filled with campy murals that make the best background for group photos and selfies. For only P500 a bed, you’re not only treated to a good night’s slumber, but you’re also right in the heart of the Philippines’ premium business district. Whether you be on vacation or working on getting a few papers done, Lokal is one to make you feel comfortable.

Bunk 5021

One of the more modern-looking hostels in fun Makati is Bunk 5021. With interiors that shout minimalist and retro fusion at the same time, this hostel is in the middle of where the good stuff happens—Burgos street! Want a sumptuous meal? Looking for a place to let loose? Interested in some midget boxing entertainment? Bunk 5021 is right in the heart of the party. For only P599 a bed, guests can be treated to several kinds of crazy shenanigans depending on what experience they sign up for.

Dormitos PH

In this list, the most distinct of them all has got to be Dormitos PH. Perhaps it is because this particular stunner in our archive isn’t exactly a hostel but ‘pods’ in a shared space. Think fancy, robotic lights. Think digital sliding doors. Guests enjoy utmost privacy in that they get to lounge around in their own little, comfortable box. Stuffed with charging ports, a huge mirror, enough ventilation, and a breeze to keep you cool, a night at Dormitos in Quezon City is most definitely an experience in itself. Rates are anywhere between P800 to twice that amount depending on promos.
