It’s that time of the year when Pantone announces the color of the upcoming year.
The Pantone Color Institute has chosen two colors for 2021 – Ultimate Gray and Illuminating. Ultimate Gray is a muted shade while Illuminating is a sunny yellow shade. These are two shades that are contrasting with each other.
In the announcement, the institute says that the combination of the two colors “highlight how different elements come together to support one another, best express the mood for Pantone Color of the Year 2021.”
“A message of happiness supported by fortitude, the combination of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is aspirational and gives us hope. We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter – this is essential to the human spirit,” says the institute on the website.
This is the second time in 22 years the institute has chosen two colors for its Color of the Year. In 2016, they chose Rose Quartz and Serenity.
