Sky Range Shooting Club is the latest high-end offering of Solaire Resort and Casino. The sprawling air-conditioned indoor shooting range is the most luxurious in the country and in Asia.
The shooting range looks like it could come from a movie set — the shooting bay has 15 shooter lanes with high-tech divisions, and the bay itself is 25 meters long for pistols and handguns. A separate bay is available for those who want to shoot with the bigger, badder equipment–automatic and assault rifles can be fired at the 5-lane, 50 meter long range, where it also houses deluxe target retrievers that can be programmed for more challenging shooting — moving targets that edge and turn.
Safety here is of utmost priority, that is why Sky Range tapped into Action Target for the customization and installation of the shooting lanes which use a Smart Pad System. Range officers are assigned to shooters and always attend to members one-on-one. Before shooting, the range officers give every member a briefing on gun safety, proper handling of gun and equipment used such as ammunition, ear muffs, and shooting glasses.
The fundamentals are their very important step before a shooter can begin to handle live ammunition. As a first time shooter, the experience does give one that surge of adrenaline once you have practiced the proper stance (even proper breathing) and finally aiming and hitting the target — the thrill is real, that's why there are people who have been converted into enthusiasts after a day at the range.
The elite shooting experience does come with a price — Sky Range is members-only, meaning one must avail of the different types of annual membership the club offers, and the membership itself will be limited. The pull of this club is mostly the international market, foreigners (currently mostly from China and Taiwan) seeking that shooting thrill that their homeland does not offer.
Sky Range does not accept walk-ins unless you are availing of a Day Pass (P10,000 plus admin fee) — and this is offered only to Solaire's checked-in hotel guests and/or casino players. Shooting Packages are available for Pistol (P5,500) and Rifle (P6,600) which includes gun rental, a target paper, and a round of ammunition which you can use at the range for one hour, with free use of muffs and shooting glasses.
Guests and members who are waiting for their turn at the shooting lane or are simply visiting to watch other shooters can lounge by Sky Range's viewing windows, fortified with bullet proof glass. The rest of Sky Range's space is dedicated for members' comfort, and it feels like it's an extension of a hotel. There is a lot of space, plush seating, a cigar lounge, locker rooms, business/conference rooms, and even a Sky Range Cafe with a full menu from light snacks to heavier-hitting items.
For the hungry, must-tries at Sky Range Cafe are the Bahay Kubo Torpedo Salad (P260) where every ingredient in the 'Bahay Kubo' song is incorporated into the dish and finished with a vinaigrette dressing, the Double Action Chorizo Burger (P540) for a fully loaded version of the local choriburger topped with melted cheese and onion rings; and for dessert, the Double Tap Halo-Halo Crunch (P200) which deconstructs the icy treat into spring roll form, with ube, jackfruit, pinipig, sago, and a caramel sauce drizzle.
