Manila FAME
April 25, 26, and 27 (World Trade Center)

An exciting new feature to watch out for in the upcoming edition is the Fashion E-tailer, a special setting dedicated to emerging fashion entrepreneurs and designer brands in the E-commerce space.

Since the trade show is more than just a platform to promote products for export, the April edition will once again spearhead community empowerment advocacies such as the Artisans Village and the GREAT Women Project. The Artisans Village is an avenue for local MSMEs to introduce their regional crafts to the global market while The Gender Responsive Economic Actions for the Transformation of Women aims to assist women entrepreneurs toward economic empowerment.

Manila FAME is one of the longest-running trade shows in Asia-Pacific and is the only trade event in the country approved by the Union des Foires Internationales (UFI), theglobal association of the world's leading tradeshow organizers and fairground owners, exhibition associations, and selected partners of the exhibition industry.

Baka Naman Hindi
April 25 to 28 (Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino, Cultural Center of the Philippines)

A classic farce filled with innuendo, physical comedy and snappy dialogue, Baka Naman Hindi returns to the CCP stage after its successful restaging in 2018. French playwright Georges Feydeau’s A Flea in Her Ear, translated by Virgilio “Beer” Flores, is known for being an archetype of the well-made play.

First staged at the CCP in the 1970s under the direction of CCP President Arsenio “Nick” Lizaso, this new production brings back the rollicking sexual comedy popular during the period. Set in 1907, this humorous tale deals with jealousy, love and lust between long time couples and friends.  In this play, set during the “belle epogue,” a woman, suspecting her lawyer husband of having an affair, plots to catch him in the act. Well-known actors including Ricky Davao, Randy Villarama, Lou Veloso, Tex Ordoñez-De Leon, Rina Reyes, Nazer Salcedo, Lao Rodriguez, Rafa Siguion-Reyna, Wenah Nagales, Mosang and other notable names in Philippine theater, TV, and film will be brought together in this high-energy comedy, with the new direction of Dennis Marasigan.

Día del Libro in Ayala Triangle
April 27 (Ayala Triangle)

On April 27, Saturday, Instituto Cervantes, the cultural arm of the Embassy of Spain, will once again be abuzz with exciting activities to celebrate the Día del Libro (International Book Day) at the Ayala Triangle. As in the previous years, thousands of books will be up for grabs. Top bookstores and publishing houses will be selling a wide array of books at a 20% discount. Following the tradition in Spain, everyone who buys a book will also be given a rose.

One of the highlights of the Día del Libro is the Rewriting of Don Quijote. To commemorate the Day of Miguel de Cervantes, Instituto Cervantes invites visitors to copy Don Quixote de La Mancha by hand. Every year, around 500 book-loving volunteers hand-write an excerpt from Cervantes’ timeless novel. Participants in the handwriting chain will receive a rose. After years of contributions from the volunteer writers, once the hand-written book is finished, it will be deposited in the Library of Instituto Cervantes.

Admission to all Día del libro activities is FREE on a FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED basis. For more information, please visit our website at http://manila.cervantes.es or our Facebook page atwww.facebook.com/InstitutoCervantesManila. You may also contact us at 526-1482.
