Still don't know where to go for the weekend? Here are the events and places to check out in the coming days.

Virgin Labfest 14: Silip
June 27 to July 15 (CCP Little Theater)

The Cultural Center of the Philippines, in partnership with its resident theater company Tanghalang Pilipino and the Writer's Bloc Inc., hosts the  Virgin Labfest, an annual theater festival dedicated to the staging of untried, untested and unstaged works, from June 27 to July 15, 2018 at various venues of the CCP.

Taking "Silip" as its catchphrase, the festival offers a chance for writers to see their creative skills taken from page to stage. Now on its 14th year, the annual theater festival picked 12 new featured one-act works, out of more than 150 manuscripts submitted.  Each expresses the complexity of human experience and create dialogues on social issues.

Rak of Aegis
June 20 to September 2 (PETA Theater Center)

“Rak of Aegis” first opened in 2014. At that time, we thought we were just launching a musical. Little did we know…we were giving birth to a Philippine musical theater phenomenon!

“Rak of Aegis” is every Pinoy’s musical! The play is a stylized and hyperreal celebration of Filipino resilience – people striving amidst adversity, individuals keeping a cheerful appearance despite bleak economic conditions, finding joy, laughter and love while bereft of dignity and stability.

From the production design to the staging to the heart capturing performances of the actors, “Rak of Aegis” wowed the audience with its impeccable beauty. Not to mention that the jaw-dropping, powerful singing of the ensemble pushes the full house to a standing ovation.

Binondo: A Tsinoy Musical
June 29 to July 8 (The Theatre at Solaire)

BINONDO, A Tsinoy Musical’ tells the story of how LILY, a Filipina nightclub singer in pre-Martial Law Manila, and AH TIONG, a mainland Chinese scholar returning to Cultural Revolution-era Beijing, embark on a journey of great love and heartbreak that begins one fated, moon-lit night during the Mid-Autumn Festival of 1972 in the heart of Manila’s Chinatown.

LILY, a hopeless romantic, finally finds her unlikely great love in AH TIONG, a cynic about destiny, during this night of one of the fullest moons ever recorded and on the birthdate of Ge Lao, the Old Man Under the Moon or the Chinese Deity of Love. Vying for LILY’s heart as well is CARLOS, a local Chinese childhood friend of hers who is finally pushed to confront his feelings for her with the arrival of this stranger set on stealing her heart. A triangle centered on different ways of loving and receiving love forms the crux of this story.
