Q&A: A Documentary Theatre Performance
About the Event
People of Interest presents the world premiere of A&Q, a documentary devised theater piece that explores the biggest problems of the country based on interviews conducted in the Philippines.
Director Jesca Prudencio returns to Manila after its first iteration as a workshop production presented at UP Diliman in 2017. She states, “As a Filipino American artist, it has been my mission and passion to give a platform for Filipino voices to understand what is happening in the Philippines right now from the people who are living it. POI’s mission is to humanize issues and I am thrilled to be premiering this deeply complex theater piece at the artistic safe haven that is Pineapple Lab.”
This version of the documentary theater piece was developed and updated after hours of interviews with families of victims, activists, community leaders, religious leaders, a community of former drug addicts working hard to help its members get clean. The theater piece uses song, dance, and these interviews through the forms testimony, karaoke, beauty pageants, and zumba dance to understand the complexity of the drug problem, and how it has affected the safety of the people influenced by it, either directly or indirectly. This is not a political piece, but rather a documentary piece made to educate, engage, and spark curiosity around the humanity of the community interviewed. A&Q is an international collaboration funded by the generous support of the San Diego State University and features Bong Cabrera, Bunny Cadag, and Opaline Santos, with projection design by Justin Humphres, sound design by Arvey Dimaculangan, and dramaturgy by Mark B. Mirando.
A&Q will have two shows with limited seating on July 12 & 13 at 8PM, at Pineapple Lab on 6053 R. Palma Street, Barangay Poblacion, Makati City. Tickets are priced at Php250 each.
