Back by popular demand, Noli Me Tangere, The Opera will once again touch surface at the Cultural Center of the Philippines from June 21 to 23. So if you missed their comeback last March, this is your chance to finally catch it on stage!
The opera is based on Jose Rizal's first novel of the same name, adapted into a three-act opera by National Artists Guillermo Tolentino, who arranged the libretto in Tagalog; and Felipe Padilla De Leon for the music in 1957.
It revolves around the numerous characters created by the national hero. From Crisostomo Ibarra and Maria Clara, whose love for each other is barred by the influential Padre Damaso; to Sisa whose miserable search for her children had caused her mind to break. It is a rich visual and musical retelling of the grievous events that Rizal had written to portray the circumstances of an era under the Spanish rule.
