Broadway musical comedy Sister Act has finally premiered on Tuesday at The Theatre at Solaire in Pasay City as part of the production’s Asian tour. The musical will be running for two weeks with no extensions, from June 27 to July 9, 2017.
A musical based on a 1992 film of the same name starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act tells the story of an aspirant diva named Deloris Van Cartier, whose life changes when she witnesses a crime involving a gang. To protect her, the cops bring her to a convent where she has to put on a disguise as a nun and be under the supervision of Mother Superior. During her stay in the convent, she inspires her newly-found sisters to find their voices while she rediscovers hers.
The production features the original score of 8-time Oscar winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and book by Bill and Cherry Steinkellner. It had its Broadway premiere in 2011 and was nominated for 5 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for Patina Miller.
We were lucky enough to be treated with a sneak peek of everything that goes on behind the stage – from the costumes to the props and all the different devices used to produce one grand and dazzling show.
