The creator of Silent Hill, SIREN, and Gravity Rush, Keiichiro Toyama, is currently working on a new horror video game with Bokeh Game Studio!
After more than 20 years working at the SIE Japan Studio, Toyama left the company late last year with Kazunobu Sato and Junya Okura to start their own company called the Bokeh Game Studio.
In a promotional video posted on YouTube, Toyama teased some concept art for Bokeh Game Studio’s first project which is an untitled horror game. As expected from the Silent Hill creator, most of these images are outright creepy and disturbing.
“Regarding our first game, I have multiple directions for my works,” Toyama said in the video. “The one I took is quite dark, far from my more recent titles. It’s like I’m coming back to my roots. For example, towards horror. My ideas were starting to go that direction. This is where I’m taking my first title.”
Toyama noted that he still wanted to make the game entertaining, so players can feel “exhilarated” when playing the game. He also shared that the recent “death game” trend on comics also inspired this upcoming title.
This subgenre was made more popular recently through the Netflix series Alice in Borderland. It was adapted from a manga series where people are forced to participate in games that could cost them their lives if they lose.
