The iPhone 12: What We Know So Far

Based on leaks from insiders, here's everything we know about the upcoming iPhone 12 range!

Besides the more budget-friendly iPhone SE 2020, Apple users also await details about the upcoming iPhone 12 range.

While further information about these new models is yet to be revealed by Apple itself, rumors and leaks can already piece together a pretty clear picture of what’s to come.

Release Date

In an exclusive with Forbes, Apple insider iHacktu shares that Apple will be holding the iPhone 12 launch on September 8, alongside the announcement of the sixth generation Apple Watch and a new entry-level iPad with the much-awaited AirPower wireless charging mat.

The insider also claims that on October 24, Apple will be launching new iPad Pros, the first Apple Silicon-based MacBook and MacBook Pro, and potentially, Apple Glass.

iPhone 12 range

The iPhone 12 range is rumored to have four iPhone models: the 5.4-inch iPhone 12, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max, all sporting the more powerful A14 Bionic Chips. It has been earlier reported that TSMC was tapped to manufacture the 5-nanometer chips.

With the A14 Bionic Chip and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X60 modems, the iPhone 12 is believed to support both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G networks.

Smaller screen

We may be expecting the smallest, bezel-less iPhone yet. 9to5Mac discovers that the iOS 14 beta’s Display Zoom feature can now support iPhone screens that are even smaller than its current 5.8-inch support. This backs the rumor that the upcoming iPhone 12 will be sporting a 5.4-inch screen.

LiDAR Camera

Earlier this year, Apple introduced the LiDAR Scanner which will be integrated into the camera of the upcoming iPad Pro. This technology can measure the distance of objects up to five meters away, working at the “photon level at nano-second speeds” and unleashing “scenarios never before possible.”

If such technology has been put into the new iPad Pro, it is no surprise if it will also be available in the upcoming iPhones. As of now, the LiDAR scanner is rumored to be part of the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max’s main features.

Jon Prosser, a well-known leaker estimates that the iPhone 12 models will have the following prices:
iPhone 12 – $649 (P32,450)
iPhone 12 Max – $749 (P37,450)
iPhone 12 Pro – $999 (P49,950)
iPhone 12 Pro Max – $1,099 (P54,950)

Again, most of the information presented here are still rumors and can only be confirmed once the new iPhone 12 range is announced by Apple. For the latest updates, be sure to follow them on Twitter and Instagram.
