6 Rules You Must Follow if You Want to Survive a Horror Film

It's Halloween season and the perfect time to enjoy a thrilling slasher movie with friends. But can you bet your own real life skills to save your own life when you find yourself in a horror movie situation? Abide by these rules to successfully survive!

What's your favorite scary movie?

It's Halloween season and whenever October rolls around, it's just the perfect time to enjoy a thrilling slasher movie with friends and scream your hearts out. But can you bet your own real-life skills to save your own life when you find yourself in a horror movie situation? Abide by these six rules to successfully survive a hell fest!

1. Never check what's in the basement, or any other creepy place.

If you have a bad feeling about a place — trust your gut

If you won't even go roaming around in your neighborhood add in the middle of the night, then why even pretend to be brave and go somewhere that's sure to have something evil creeping in the corners? If you want to survive a horror movie, then you better not have a deathwish and think straight.

2. Always come in groups — never go solo.

"Let's split up and look for the killer," said every future horror movie victim

Why is it that we totally forget logic and that there's always strength in numbers? Sticking together always is a better idea than to go somewhere alone in the dark, alone, and unarmed. Remember basically all the times in slasher films when people split up to look around some creepy haunted place, and one by one they slowly die?

3. Don't trust the dead, because they'll come back to life.

So you think you've killed the monster and are now the hero?

Just when you think you just caught and killed the killer and are about to stop the terror with a happy ending, think again. You'll be tempted to go back and check for his pulse, or turn your back and prematurely celebrate your survival, then in comes the jump scare and surprise–the killer is back from the dead! Follow this rule with all corpses – don't even bother going up close to check if they're really dead. Just get the hell out of there!

4. If you hear a strange noise, don't head towards it.

"What's that noise coming from outside our cabin in the woods? I better check it out alone, at night, unarmed," said another future victim

Doors creak, trees rustle, windows suddenly flying open, and objects suddenly landing on the floor with a thud. There will be unusual creaks and thuds in the dark, and a survivor trusts his instincts and never tries to hunt for the source of these noises. As the saying goes, curiosity killed the cat — and it would probably kill you too.

5. Don't just run, sprint — and watch every step!

One trip is all it takes to end the chase scene with the killer catching up on you

Running is one of the basic skills one needs to survive every horror movie, but more importantly, stop tripping! You don't want to be that fool (a.k.a. future victim) who'll just recklessly run and trip, and next thing you know, you're staring into the cold eyes of a killer who's got you now. And on a related note — wearing the proper footwear can save your life, especially when you're in the middle of the woods and it's starting to rain. Ditch the heels, because sneakers might just save your life.

6. Never summon a demon, touch any ancient-looking artifact, nor chant creepy incantations.

If it's in some ancient language you can't understand, don't even try to act cool and read it out loud.

A strange looking artifact unearthed from burial grounds, an old dusty book suddenly opening to a page of incantations, an ouija board your friend brings one sleepover so you can all have a kick out of communicating with spirits… Let's face it, you know that all of that will just lead to something sinister. Whoever does these things is just asking for it. This is one horror movie where you want to stay alive, right?

Remember these rules and see if they will help you survive all the terror that will unfold in the upcoming slasher film 'Hell Fest' when it opens in cinemas on October 10, 2018.
